A Duke's Promise

This was the weakest book in the series. The first half was good, as Alexandria finally began to mature and started out on her new marriage. I also loved the adventure by air balloon.
However, there was a great deal of objectionable content in here. The marriage bed parts pretty much stopped only right before the Act. As in, being naked, or mentioning “she didn't know it could be done in the daytime” and then it obviously being done at that time. And the whole part about the villain who wanted to ruin her mother.
After all this reading to get to her parents, I was really disappointed with the sort of people they turned out to be. They are unscrupulous and apparently not even that much in love with each other (I'd assumed they were some kind of lovebirds from a few comments in the first book, but obviously not so much.) The whole last half of the book felt shabby and unbelievable, especially when her mother's archenemy met the Duke. And the revealing of the treasure they sought fell flat to me.
I really, really wish it had lived up to the promise of the first book.
