Ok it's official everyone who told me I was going to love Rhysand after reading this book was right. Although I do have to say that I didn't end up hating Tamlin as much as I was expecting to. He definitely did some awful things but I can understand him and his actions to a point but he did go to far. This book picks up about 3 months after the previous book and Feyre is struggling after everything that happened under the mountain with Amarantha but Tamlin doesn't seem to notice the toll it is taking on her. Rhysand is more prominent in this book and we learn a lot. We also get introduced to several other characters which I ended up really loving. Some things happened that I didn't see coming and I can't wait to see what happens next. This book was a lot darker than the first book and much more steamy as well. Honestly I just absolutely loved this book and can't wait to read the next book which I will hopefully do sooner rather than later.

Spoiler Reading Vlog 2021
2019: 10 out of 5 damn stars. I freaking loved this book and at this moment my mind is shattered and I have no comprehensible thoughts besides amazing.
2021: THIS BOOK IS STILL THAT BITCH! I love this book with my whole soul and I honestly feel like it's a part of me. I know everybody hates on Ms. Maas and says her characters and basic and her writing is trash but I love both dearly! Re-reading this book felt like coming home. It was literally a warm hug and I honestly just want to re-read it again rn but I'll refrain lol
This is one of those series where the second book is considerably better than the first one. Feyre's internal growth is so heartwarming and obviously, who can resist Rhys
This book was a game changer for me, I didn't expect the twist, but I HOPED FOR IT, since the end of book 1!! It didn't disappoint!
Re read 2022. I loved it as much as I did the first time I read it tho now my favorite characters are Nesta and Cassian. This book deserves its hype after acotar!
Vaguely reminds me of New Moon where Bella switches from Edward to Jacob. I actually found it kind of hilarious how the first book hypes up the romance so much and then BAM she gets with another dude lmao. The author goes straight to painting the original romantic lead as a villain and it felt very one dimensional, like it completely removed him from the equation. Feel like it could've been more spicy if both the dudes were still options.
It's kinda cool to go back and read the scenes with Rhys from the first book and you're like ohhh.
Also the main character literally has like 3 male friends and her sisters are getting with 2 of them??? Feels a bit too forced, not everyone has to be in a romance.
I still enjoyed it tho? Not sure I want to give it 4 stars, maybe 3.5.

How I love this book. ACOMAF is my favorite of the series for a few good reasons -
1. We see Feyre learn to be herself – she learns what power she has, how she can control it, and how to just be a person, a real live person. For so long she was just surviving, and here she can finally do something other than that.
2. We see Rhys treat Feyre how she was always meant to be treated – like a person deserving of love, affection, and most importantly, choice. He lets her awaken to the world at her own pace, with only a few kicks in the pants. He brings her back to life. We also get to know him – the real him, not the mask that he had to wear Under the Mountain.
3. We see Feyre and Rhys fall in love. It's not all at once, either. At least for Feyre, anyway. She takes her time throughout the book, letting herself feel everything that she's gone through. And once they finally fall together, we see what 'mates' really means. They are perfect for one another, and that's one of my absolute favorite tropes, thank you.
4. We meet the Court of Dreams, get to see Velaris, and fall in love with The Night Court itself. Velaris feels like a real city, and Maas's worldbuilding really gets to stretch its legs in this book.
So very much happens in this book. So many important things happen in this book, plotwise and otherwise. It's a nice chunky volume, and while yes, Maas reuses phrases a lot, at the end of the day the book feels worth it's length. I'll be coming back to this one time and time again, and I'm not ashamed to say it.
Holy god, the twists and turns! This did NOT go where I expected, and it certainly didn't end where I hoped it would, and lots of people need to be shredded into tiny little pieces.
I can't wait for the next book.
This review is also featured on Behind the Pages: A Court of Mist and Fury
Feyre has survived, but her soul is broken. Unable to overcome the trauma she suffered under Amarantha, her mind relives each horrible moment in her nightmares. She should be happy and enjoying the life that is healing all around her, but darkness lurks in her heart. When Rhysand calls in their bargain and brings her to the Night Court, she'll find that she isn't the only broken one.
I have been the biggest skeptic about Sarah J. Maas. But I learned never to judge an author by one series alone. (I DNFed Throne of Glass). But let me tell you, this book, this book right here blew me away. The writing wasn't the best in A Court of Thorns and Roses, it was repetitive and clunky at times. But whatever faults the first book had, this one made up for it.
Feyre goes through such a detailed and excruciating downfall. Her doubts and fears are woven into the story so intricately, and watching her development through it all was phenomenal. And seeing the two fey lords react differently to her brokenness was reflective of the real world when some people just don't understand how to help someone through trauma. I love watching characters fight to overcome their own boundaries, and the more struggle the better. Sara J. Maas did this perfectly with Feyre taking each small step forward and sometimes sliding backwards. But the best part of it all, was watching her have someone stand beside her the entire way and not fault her for those steps back she took.
I am the hardest to sell on romance, but A Court of Mist and Fury hit all the right chords for me. A friendship that was built on sarcasm and slowly developed trust, evolved into a passionate romance. There was no instant love, every bit of the relationship was fought for and properly introduced in the story. By the time Feyre chose to move forward with the romance I was bouncing on my feet waiting for it. This is the romance I enjoy reading about. And I need the next book to figure out what happens!
This was one of those books that you want to devour in one sitting but at the same wanting to take your time so it would never end.
I have never enjoyed a book so much that I was willing to take my time reading it so I can feel transported into the story and never leave. I wanted to be part of Rhysand's inner circle. And I'm not even going to get started on the details of that ‘Love Declaration'. ::swoon::
Goodreads will tell you that I've read this book twice. That is what they call in my country a whole ass lie. Pick a number, any number and that is how many times I've read it. I've love the whole series but this book will forever be a book that will come to mind when people ask what my favorite book is ( Side note: stop asking bookworms that question. I don't know about the others but my brain melts LOL).
First of all, Rhysand. The title of BOOK HUSBAND ( yes all capitals. Always) applies to him and only him. Even being the strongest High Lord in Prythian history, he never belittled his Inner Circle. He never treated them as subjects and he trusted and loved them so much that he endured hell Under The Mountain so they wouldn't have to. But most importantly, he helped bring Feyre back to herself.
Now as oh so magnificent as Rhysand is...the star of this show is Feyre. As a woman she is such an easy character to root for. So young she learned that life was a cruel bitch and she fought back to survive. And that helped shape her even more in this book. She lost herself a bit, she doubted herself some, she had some major ptsd...but like the bad ass warrior queen she is she came back from all that and then some.
NOT TO MENTION the greatest Inner Circle ever.. Amren, Mor, Cassian and Azriel. I'm hoping that SJM has their books planned. They NEED their own books. And I need to read them.
I just can't express how much I am in love with this series. It has everything and is so well written. It's not slow or too fast but it makes you read so quickly it's over before you know it. Sarah Maas is one of my favorite authors now.
2nd read 2019 (5 stars)
I loved this the first time I read it and I loved it the second time too. I don't think I loved it as much as the first but enough to give it five stars anyway. It starts off rather slow, much like the first, again because we're seeing a truly miserable Feyre.
ACOTAR - Feyre being miserable because of family and circumstances
ACOMAF - Feyre being miserable because of depression and PTSD
ACOWAR - ???? both?????? I- how will this pattern continue?? (I have not read this one)
But it picks up a little faster than the first. When Rhysand comes to bring her to the night court the first time, a little bit of life breathes in to Feyre and it's tolerable to be with her. And then when she goes permanently to the Night Court everything is like a thousand times better.
I was really surprised how I remembered many things from but in all the wrong places. Like, so many scenes that I thought happened later came earlier, it happened several times. And then when we came to the ending, I realized that while I had known what happened at the end, I had forgotten what exactly happened at THE VERY END. Somehow my dumb ass had forgotten Feyre's stellar acting.
I think the addition of new characters helps the story too, giving more people for Feyre to bounce off. Cassian, Azriel, Mor and Amren all bringing great dynamics that were missed in the first book where we only really had Lucien and Tamlin.
And I'm a total sucker for Feysand. Like, total. That's all.
Also, why is it that everyone remembers and talks (myself included) about this book as an absolute smutfest when it actually isn't???? Like, yeah we get some sex, sure, but like... There were literally hundreds of pages, probably 400 or something like that without sex and I was like ?????? why did I remember it as smutty when we get like two scenes??? me no comprendo. My memory does not serve me well, honestly.
I really loved this. I think Rhysand ultimately carries the book, as his character is so charismatic and fun in ways that Feyre just isn't (and it is written from her pov, 1st person, so we can't avoid her feelings). That's not to say that Feyre is boring. I mean she is for about 100 pages, but then she finds the light and begins to feel again. And then she's less boring. But Rhys is just a force to be reckoned with. He's witty, charming, charismatic, devastating, and kind? Like, what's not to love?In my first review I said Feyre was more badass than Celaena. That's... well... up for discussion.
1st read 2016 (5 stars)
How does one survive being ripped to sheds?
Because I was by reading this books.
I can barely BREATHE right now, and I'm sitting here wishing I was home alone so I could scream my guts out because this book makes me want to scream.
I cannot BELIEVE- I LITERALLY CANNOT BELIEVE THAT ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AND I'M SO EXCITED AS WELL AS INCREDIBLY FEARFUL OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE NEXT BOOK.
I AM DEAD, OKAY? I AM FUCKING DEAD, THIS BOOK KILLED ME TO THE BONE, AND I'VE BEEN CRAWLING IN MY BED AND SCREAMING INTO MY PILLOW BECAUSE MY FEELINGS ARE LITERALLY SO OUT OF CONTROL AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY, I JUST FEEL ENTIRELY FED UP BY ALL OF MY FEELINGS AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH IT.
THAT. ENDING.
Okay so actual thoughts:
I loved this a bajillion times more than I did ACOTAR. And I loved ACOTAR.
Tamlin's story arc is... interesting. ;)
Feyre is more badass than Celaena. I will stand by this statement till the day I die.
Rhys is dreamy. That's all I gotta say about him.
The dream team is my favorite thing ever. (lol get it? DREAM)
NESTA. nuff said.
I will literally die when Amren goes home. DIE. (my bae)
Can we just talk about the romance that SHOULD be happening between Cassian and Azriel?
I wish we saw more of the Summer Court because Tarquin, man. Potential ally, I'm telling you now.
Don't know if I should be happy or annoyed by all this mating. I mean I do love love stories. And romances. And happy endings. So don't blame me if I'm happy!
Lucien... when you open your mouth I want you to say things that have ACTUAL VALUE AND GOOD REASON.
Oh, and as a last thing: BY THE CAULDRON, THAT WAS GREAT.
For all the people who haven't read this book, I have a fun game for you.

actual rating: 4.5 stars
oh my GOD what is WITH the acotar series and their CRazy ASS ENDINGS i did NOT expect that gonfeknlfdnkl definitely going to read acowar rly fkn SOON i am hella SHOOK
This is quite frankly, one of the best books I've ever read. I could sit here and try to describe how awesome that was, but there are other reviews that do a great job.
Update as of 9 June 2019: Well. It was a third reread. I have my issues with Sarah J. Maas writing, but the story in A Court of Mist and Fury is so... moving.
It even made me contemplate reading Empire of Storms. But honestly, I have no idea if I will.
//End of update//
It is a magnificent novel. Magnificent. I'm just a little without words at the moment. That was a freaking rollercoaster and not a novel. And that ending. It just broke something in me, but it was epic nonetheless.
The beginning was hard. After everything that the characters had endured, they deserved happy ending for themselves, but there wouldn't be the second book if everything was so simple. Everyone dealt with the aftermath of Amarantha at best they could. Well, someone couldn't and it broke everything. Honestly, the first part of the book was the hardest for me. Tamlin avoided the problem and look where it got him. Spoiler: nothing good.
The second part of the book was way too entertaining. Don't get me wrong - there were hard moments, enough of them. But there was also hope that everything can be righted. I really loved new characters and what they brought to the story. There were a lot of moments where I was ready to burst with happiness and laughter. And I love this book for that.
Ther third part was bittersweet. I knew all too well that it couldn't be that good for too long. So many things had gone wrong. So many things could be different if only one was changed, but we got what we got. What is there to say? The ending was a bit cruel but just so dramatic. And I'm glad that the author hadn't left it as an absolute cliffhanger (just a little one).
One of the things, that I loved the most about this book is that it was told wholly from one perspective. I do enjoy when there are two POVs and more, but that way there is always one or couple that I like less.
Right now, I would love nothing more than to dive into the third book right now (I really anticipate the moment when one High Lord realizes what he's done), but, most unfortunately, I need to study for my exam.
This book left me speechless, it was phenomenal.
My full thoughts and review
god these fairies are SO HORNY
this book could get a full blackout bingo card on any kind of hurt/comfort trope bingo and honestly I'm here for it, like, oh no we were caught in the freezing rain and there's only one bed left at the inn? ohhh nooo
the plot is like, a lot, but I don't care, it's just obstacles getting in the way of very enjoyable tropes
it makes no sense that only the man knows the mating bond is in place but also whatever who cares it's fuckin magic
