fuck. it's been over a month and i can't bring myself to finish the last 20% of this so... i'm giving up sjm you win
I really enjoy the writing style of Sarah J. Maas. I will definitely be reading her other books. I loved this book. It felt easier and flowed better then the first partly because the relationship with Rhys was more natural than Tamlin. Tamlin locking her up had me so heated. I was shouting I knew it when Tamlin and Lucien were working with Hybern. I would like to move to Velaris. It sounded like the epitome of peace. I found a new villian to hate the human queens collectively. I like that Feyre has come into her powers and is stronger then many know. I loved that her kindness to the wraith was paid back by saving her life. I hated how this book sent her babk to Tamlin. I am eagerly anticipating reading the next book to see if Cassian and Nessa have a thing, what becomes of Lucien and Elain since they are mates, what comes of the war with Hybern, and I pray Feyre gets her revenge on Tamlin. Side note: I am so sad for Feyre, Nessa, and Elain's father. He now has 3 fairy daughters and he doesn't even know yet.
I can't with this book. Like what the heck! How does it keep taking me by surprise? I mean how did SJM write the perfect guy?! He's understanding, he's beautiful, he's dark and mysterious, he gives Feyre the freedom to figure herself out even when it goes against everything in him to let her, because he wants the best for her regardless of how much it hurts him personally. Like what??? Good thing I'm already married because my expectations are way too high for the male population right now.
This was just so satisfying. Hot faerie sex, good friendships, exposition of one character I was intrigued by last book and now looooooooove (and which made me appreciate Maas' long game in #1, which I went back and re-read some of to really appreciate the subtle setup she did in that one for #2), danger, magic, complexity of sibling relationships, etc. Also, today I discovered that not only do my best friend and I alternate “Serious Novels” with “trash” (ratio varying by how terrible the outside world is at a given moment), but we both started this series within days of each other and now I am just waitttttting for her to finish this one to discuss! This one ends with a cliffhanger, but not the kind I'm mad about. I will say that if you like your escapism to just be sexy escapism, skip this series, which is violent, but as long as my literary violence is encased in a fantasy world, I'm fine with it.
This book was insufferable to begin with. I liked the direction of the story but it was hard to swallow at the beginning. Sarah J. Maas has an idea of where she wants to get the story to but she gets there too quickly, leaving the reader a bit whiplashed and mourning of what's been ripped away (and not in the good way). She unpacks it all later, which is when the book becomes much more enjoyable and I gobbled it all up but some of that information or thought process from the character would have been appreciated much earlier on. Plots and characters from the first book being dropped is fine but when it all happens in the first few pages, it feels like I wasted my time reading the first book. I like where the story went and I liked that it was challenging and confronting. That IS good in a book but needs to be done correctly. I see what people mean by Maas' writing being repeative and some of her word choices were annoying (for lack of a better word) but overall I enjoyed the writing. Maas is clever when it comes to reveals. Some of them are a bit cliche but that's not to say that I wasn't sitting there going “OH MY GOD NO WAY” still. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I was glued to it, though the writing did annoy me as everything (hands, smiles, people) is relentlessly described as “male” or “female” (“lazy male smile”? Really? ) when smiles aren't gendered they are “bland” over and over again, and for some reason everyone purrs all the time. Could have stood a better editing pass. But the characters' arcs were more appealing than in the first book and the overall plot and milieu held much more interest for me being more action driven. Romantic ideals improved dramatically. It did successfully hook me but I felt a little embarrassed about it.
As a non romance reader reading this for the first time, i thought this was a overhyped series that needs to stop being recommended to the book world. I love high fantasy and fantasy that falls into lord of the rings the hobbit the wheel of time etc. but this book in particular has really pulled me in. Why is no one talking about chapter 54 when all they talk about is chapter 55 lol. That cliffhanger at the end too why is no one talking about that!? I am absolutely hooked i love mor, rhys, cassian, azriel and somewhat annoyed with feyre. But when i finished this i loved where this is going. Definitely has a non romance book lover hooked to read till a court of silver ☺️ hands down five stars for gripping me every step of the way the character arcs the world building the beautiful chemistry being built with rhys and feyre. Just chefs kiss amazing.
I have no words for this book. It was better than ACOTAR, and watching the friendships/relationships grow throughout the book was amazing. The plot was easy to follow and all came together in the end, full circle. Can't wait to start the next book in the series. Also Chapters 54-55 tho... 10/10.
i can't actually remember the last time I read smut, so tamlin whipping his dick out was quite~ the surprise.
+ this shit still goes hard
anemoia - n. nostalgia for a time you've never known
Honestly, anemoia is how I feel every time I read about Velaris.. I yearn to see the city in person and witness its beauty.
I love the scenes where the whole family is together, it makes my heart so happy. The character development that Feyre goes through in ACOMAF is harrowing and I just love witnessing the journey to her happy ending.
Third read: 5 stars ✨
Second read: 5 stars ✨
First read: 5 stars ✨
I'm not going to lie, I did not think I was going to like this book half as much as I did after the first one. I hated Tamlin in the first book and was mad they were together. Feyre was also overly petulant and prone to making stupid decisions. Then there's this one. I love Rhys! I love the rest of the gang too. I love the powers and the folklore. The slow build of flirtation was great. I'm excited to start the next one right away.

4,5 ⭐️
This is still not the most original serie but the 2nd book is sooooo much better than the first one ! For sure you must read the 1st to enjoy the full plot and reveals.
It really got me into the story and I am looking forward the next one.
that was amazing, a huge improvement from the pervious book.
i like how the author took the story in a new direction. (Hades and Persephone is my favorite retelling.)
i adore Feyre, i didn't care much about her in the first book, but here? she was awesome. Rhysand, of course, is the star of this book and i can't stress enough on how good he is.
i think what i liked the most about this book is how more exciting it was, the pacing and the luscious romance also contributed to my enjoyment.
i also loved the side characters here, Amren was a cool addition to the story, Cassian and Nesta were amusing and can't wait to see more of their banter.
I... unexpectedly loved this book. I disliked the first one and was just barely compelled to read this one. And, I loved it. I enjoyed it so much it made me like the first one by proxy for setting it up so well.
Would definitely recommend. Thoroughly enjoyable read.
ELSKER rhys og Feyre sammen, deres følelser som utvikles, deres mating bond, hans historie, elsker hvordan hun fikk tatoveringene, ble dronning for Night Court, kreftene hennes, men likte ikke at søstrene ble forvandlet da..
Gorgeous. Stunning. Beautiful. The best. How did I ever think ACOTAR was good? This is such a great book. Love it. Can't wait to start the next one. Rhysand is my book boyfriend forever.
I LOVED IT!!!!!!! There were a few small surprises but it was awesome! Maas is great at what she does! Hahaha Feyre + Rhysand is awesome (I hate you Tamlin, you “stupid fool”)!
