J. Anderson Coats has received four Junior Library Guild awards, won two Washington State Book awards, and earned starred reviews from Kirkus, School Library Journal, the Horn Book Review, and Shelf Awareness.

Her newest books are The Loss of the Burying Ground, a YA pirates-and-castaways action-adventure with a twist; and A Season Most Unfair, a middle grade historical set in medieval England about a girl with something to prove.

The Unexpected Lives of Ordinary Girls, a middle-grade historical inspired by the life of her grandmother, is forthcoming from Atheneum Books for Young Readers in 2025.
