Would have given this three stars if the chemistry between nora and patch had been written better. Seriously there is no reason given for either of them to like/love the other one. The build up was sloppy and the characters choices made me angry too often.
I don't think I can empathise enough how much I love that book.
Some or even many people may know the move adaption by Ghibli and I can tell you it is nothing compared to the book! So when you like the film I guarantee you you'll love the book.
Only after reading it I understand some of the scences in the movie, so go on and read it while I wait for the other two volumes to arrive at my local bookstore ;D
Usually I don't do (and with do I mean read) books with sick people in it. It makes me tear up and cry for hours. This book has too, and I probably wouldn't have read it if I had known more about the story, but lying in bed at four in the mourning, my eyes red and puffy, I don't regret reading “nowhere but here”. It's one of my favorits, not just this year, but ... well it's been long since I got moved that much...
I liked the story very much even though the translation wasn't that good. I very much dislike translations from other translations. This one was translated from italian into german even though it's originally japanese! there is so much that gets lost in this process and you can find it especially in the beginnig of the translation. In due time i will probably reread the book in its ori g inal language.
I wanted to give this zero stars or one. I hated how whiny and self pitting the protagonist was all the way through the book. Also it was way too predictable. Nonetheless the end (the last 2-3 hours of reading) still earned a star for actually being somewhat thrilling.
Great Book. Next I want to read something about men that are being sexualized, harassed, abused etc. as it is written in this book about women. I feel that there are many (men and women) that experience this and haven't come forward, have no one to protect them and feel too trapped to protect themselves...
Although many elements in the book reminded me of Twilight and New Moon it was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to the next adventures of Jessica and Lucius :)
I want more!
Part One starts off very good with so much happening that you'll fly through the pages like Andi, Lira, Gilly and Breck fly the Marauder through space!
Warning You'll crave for more!
I really wanted to like this book more. At first I thought I would like it more, even though the language lacks what I'm used to when reading books set in this time period, but I started to hate the actions Henry/Monty took and his rather dangerous drinking habits. I know it's all part of his character and probably because of his father, but it feels too much at some points in the story. I probably will give the second book a chance as well though because Felicity was my favourite character out of the bunch.
Warning to all Harry Potter fans (books and movies): this book opens wounds you might thought have healed!
At first it read like a typical hp-fanfiction, and I laughed a lot, but then again I cried almost more than I did while reading book seven!
It's not book one to three, which are my favourite of the series, but it's high up there with them.
The idea and the description was well, however it felt too rushed and missing some pieces to really make an impact and create the right atmosphere for my preferred reading experience when enjoying this kind of genre. I believe it would make a visually pleasing movie without jumpscares just building up suspense with the plot and natures scenery.
It's a good thing I promised myself that I wouldn't read another book until the end of the week, because I will need the time not only to study but mainly to get my mind around how great this book is! I believe this is my favourite book I read this year (2016)!
Meh... Should be 2,5 stars. In the time the book came out it might have been revolutionary and daring, but the way he depicts the different peoples and the outcome of the war altogether lacks research, although the information I lack probably weren't all available to the author at the time of writing the book. But without this information it is, nowadays mere fiction and not the best at that! Especially the German spoken by German in the book is sometimes wrong.
wasn't really that happy with the story for i think there are some plot mistakes. but then again i've read the first anita blake book about a year ago...
I would have given it 3 stars (because of predictedness) but it seems to have gotten me out of a reading slump and made me laugh more than once at the erotic scence which were actually quite good if a little bit too imaginative/diffrent to what I usually read when I want something...spicy. I will get myself the second part to see where the story is going and I'm looking forward to it.
