Not only does this bring an amazing new take (although implicitly obvious) on what motivates us, but the author also includes instructive guides and sections in the back ok how to apply the knowledge from the book.
A bit of set up at the beginning but it's well worth the wait. I can't wait for the third book. So hyped.
This book was absolutely amazing! It was captivating not only due to it's main topic, which alone was fascinatingly out of the ordinary, but also in the character development and twists that continued through to the end of the book. 10/10 would recommend.
It was my favorite book I've ever read. Nearly perfect (although I have it 5 stars, there's no option for 4.9).
For being a middle grade book the story and characters are so deep and we'll thought out. I couldn't put it down and flew right into the next one.
Amazing magic system that is just getting started in this first installment. Wonderful character and world building. Sanderson writes in a way that turns your emotions in to a physical reactions. Well done.
Nice addition to the “out of the box” archaeological record. However, there's a lot of information that doesn't seem quite as necessary to the overall story.
Well written and researched case studies of where we find ourselves in the evolution of capitalism. Research, that is not the topic of this book, indicates that somewhere around $70k is where people start to feel monetarily comfortable and start seeking intangible recognition for their work instead of monetary recognition. It seems that were at or nearing that kind of tipping point in the life of capitalism. Not that markets aren't important, but the idea that only high levels of philanthropy can help mitigate some of the qualms created by capitalism. Some countries have long known this, but in the US the system has been adamant to continue the experiment.
Giridharadas has astutely pointed out the flaws in this way of thinking. His analysis of the imagined opportunity costs supposedly felt by the wealthy philanthropists of the day outlines a growing sentiment sweeping the US.
Trevor Noah's mom is the most badass person in the entire world!
Also, Trevor himself is amazing for enduring all he has throughout his life. Definitely an inspiration for a lot of people.
