Wow, this book was something different! I've never read anything like this before and I really enjoyed it. I don't think I would've normally picked it up, but I got it in my Fairyloot box and I was so excited when I started reading it.
A story about two rival gangs, forbidden love and a monster that roams the streets of 1920 Shanghai, this book kept getting better and better. I really enjoyed all the information about Chinese culture, the whole vibe of the book and the fact that it's a Romeo and Juliet retelling (if the names Roma and Juliette didn't already make that very clear).
The plot twist were good, the pace of the book was good and it made me want to keep reading and reading after finishing chapter after chapter. The ending left me speechless and I hate the fact that I have to wait for the next book to come out, but I kind of loved that cliff-hanger.
I absolutely loved this book. It was even better than the first one and it was everything I had expected AND MORE. Such an amazing story, Elizabeth Lim has a very beautiful writing style that makes you forget you're reading and it makes you feel a part of the story.
As the title suggests, this book is based on the well known fairytale: Cinderella. We all know her, we know her story about the fairy who gave her a dress, glass shoes, a beautiful carriage to go to the palace and attend the ball. But what if that is not the true story, what if the books have been lying to us all along?
That's what this book is about. Sophia, the main character whos is Black and queer, is not happy in the world she lives in. It's a men's world, where girls and women don't have a say, they can't own a business or make their own money, they are abused and mistreated, they are considered weak and unimportant. But Sophia is tired of this and she really does want to change the world, starting with Lille, her home town. So this book is all about her smashing the patriarchy.
I liked the story and the whole idea of the book was really interesting, seeing this fairytale twisted into something bigger! Although, the only character that I really liked was Sophia. Constance, the girl she meets in Cinderella's tomb was so annoying and I couldn't stand her at first. I ended up not hating her, but I still didn't like her by the end of the book, for some reason. Erin, the girl Sophia was in love with, was just meh. I also felt like Sophia's feelings towards Constance were kinda rushed, I didn't feel the chemistry between them and I didn't feel like they would be a good match.
I feel like something is missing from this book, but I don't know what, it just didn't feel like a “wow” book to me.
“We the legionWe the lightBurning bright against the night.”
Goodreads needs to make a 10 stars rating for books like this one. And it should be illegal for authors to release books like this one without having the next book released too. I just can't. I CAN'T.
My opinion on this book WITHOUT SPOILERS :
It was AMAZING. Purely amazing. Such a well written book, I loved the development of the characters. I loved the plot. I loved everything that happened, even if some things broke my heart into tiny little pieces. If you liked Aurora Rising, you should definitely read this NOW. Trust me, you won't regret it. But bring some tissues with you, YOU WILL NEED THEM.
Spoiler
WHAT THE HELL? I mean I was shocked to find out the fact that Kal is the Starslayer's son. I'm telling you I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS. And Tyler and Scar to have Syldrathi blood? WOW. This book has some amazing plot twists, some heartbreaking ones.
When Kal left, I really felt like he took a piece of my heart with him. HOWWWWWWW could you do this to us, Amie and Jay????
I am just... shocked. The last chapter broke my heart. I was crying SO HARD I couldn't see the words and I struggled while reading it. I want to know what happens. I am still hoping that Squad 312 is going to be united in the next book and that they're all going to be ok. If not, I WILL SCREAM AND CRY AND GLFHJFGHLDFD.
After the first two books, I really expected more from this one. Hoped it was going to be the one to save the series from being lame, but nope. I actually wasn't expecting that kind of an ending, but it was not impressive at all.
I can only say that I'm happy it was a short series and I haven't wasted too much time.
First I want to thank PRH International for giving me the chance to read an eARC of one of my most anticipated releases from this year!
And now... Where do I even start? Writing this is going to hurt, because I love this series so much and the characters are my little babies, but this book was not it for me. Maybe I had high expectations after reading Aurora Burning and I didn't expect this book to be so... soft?
Let's talk about the characters first.
Aurora
I felt like she was so weird in this book and I understand that it was because of the power within her, but she made some crazy decisions, she was acting very strange and I just didn't like her character that much in this book. She could've been so, so much better, she had a lot of potential that wasn't used.
Kal
After Aurora Burning, my heart was broken for him. This guy deserved so much more and he did get some of that in Aurora's End, but not enough. I would've loved to see him make up with his sister, but eh...
Zila
I love her with all my heart. she saved the book, because her sacrifice was literally my favourite thing in this book, one that I felt like it was worthy of the finale of a series. She is so amazing and I wish we knew more about her life with Nari, I need a short story or novella or something about them.
Tyler
I didn't expect him to be the person he was in this book and I LOVED his new self. And I was rooting for him and Saedii, so I'm glad they made the big step, because they're really great together.
Scarlett
I love her growth so much. She overcame so many of her fears in order to save the ones she loved, she became such a beautiful person and I'm so happy that she finally got what she deserves.
Finian
He's enough and he has always been enough and I love him so, so much. He has come so far and I'm so happy that he and Scarlett found each other. I mean it was very predictable, but I love them together. They deserve each other.
The plot? Well, the plot was definitely not what I was expecting. I really enjoyed the whole time travelling stuff, even though my mind went a little crazy while trying to piece everything together. It was challenging and I enjoyed it, coming from a sci-fi book. But as I said in the beginning, this book was too soft. I was expecting a huge fight with the Ra'haam, not what happened with Aurora and her choices. I just didn't feel like it was such a great ending to this series, it was just cute, but not exciting.
All in all, I liked the book. I even loved some part of it, but not the book as a whole. It could've been much better in my opinion, but this is all we get.
“People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is “You're safe with me” - that's intimacy.”
Almost 400 pages book - read in one sitting. I can't even begin to describe the intensity and beauty of this book. It shocked me, it made me cry and it made me laugh, it made me want to throw it across the room and it made me want to hug it. That's Taylor Jenkins Reid for you. This author is a magician with an incredible talent, their writing style is absolutely amazing. I couldn't put the book down. And I, as a huge fantasy lover (that's what I read 90% of the time), wasn't expecting to fall so hard for this book. For Evelyn Hugo.
This book is exactly what the title says: the story of the beautiful actress Evelyn Hugo and her seven husbands. It follows Evelyn since she was a child, before she became Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn tells her story in such a beautiful way and I absolutely loved her. I loved the fact that she wasn't ashamed of what she'd done in order to get famous. She wasn't ashamed of the fact that she knew she was a bomb of a woman and she used that to climb the mountain of celebrity. She struggled, she fell, she got back up again. She never stopped.
Evelyn Hugo is a force of nature , I think that's the best way to describe her. Her story will make you weep and it will make you realize (if you didn't already know) how unfair the world is. There are a lot of touching subjects throughout the book: the struggle of being a black or LGBTQ+ (or both) person back in the day, in the 50's or 60's. Or even later, because things don't get better. They're not better now, in 2021, so we can only imagine how hard it was for people then.
I won't say anything more, I just want you to discover Evelyn's story yourselves. Trust me, you won't regret it. The hype is real for this book and it did not disappoint.
I loved this book! As a huge fan of Greek Mythology (it's what actually got me into reading), I savoured every single part of this book. The gods, goddesses, the legends and the myths really spoke to my heart.
The plot was amazing and really interesting: the almighty gods and goddesses becoming mortal for 7 days every 7 years in something called the “Agon”, people hunting them for their powers in a different city every Agon, mortals becoming gods. That's “Lore” in a few words.
I loved the characters and how they protected each other, I screamed at the plot twists and things I wasn't expecting, I devoured every single page of this book and I couldn't put it down. It was definitely a 5 star read for me and I'm sad it's a stand-alone. I need more, even though this book didn't leave me hanging. I just want to see more of these amazing characters and this crazy world.
This was a nice read, but I wasn't that impressed with it. I would give it around 3,5 stars right now. I didn't feel like I connected with the characters that much. I really liked the writing style, the pace of the book and everything that happened, but I felt the romance a little bit rushed. I feel like they didn't even get to know each other and suddenly they were in love and they would've done everything for each other - a little bit too fast, in my opinion.
!!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!!
I am SCREAMING. Why did I choose to read this book now, knowing that I won't have the next one for a year or two? I did this to myself.
This book was incredible. I feel like crying and screaming now tho. It was so, so good. But I was left so empty and I don't even know how to explain it. What the hell!??!!
I really hope that James and Cordelia will be together in the end and that someone will smack that b*tch Grace. I hate her so much, she's so annoying and she ruined my hopes.
And I don't even know what to say about Matthew, WHAT DOES HE WANT?
What the hell is with these people and their love lives and everything, this is so frustrating but awesome at the same time.
I know a book is REALLY good when it makes me feel all these feelings.
Can't wait for the next one.
I WANT TO GIVE THIS BOOK ALL THE STARS IN THE WORLD
This might be my new favorite rom-com. I loved this book so much. SO SO BEAUTIFUL OMG I CAN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT IT BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START
I loved every single part of it. The friends to lovers trope, the characters were amazing and they made me laugh so hard and some parts made me cry my eyes out and...... wow. Just WOW!
Everyone needs to read this book and I really hope it's going to be a thing on Booktok and Bookstagram because it deserve soooo much hype
I don't even know where to start.
I've been thinking about reading this book for such a long time and I'm so happy that I finally picked it up. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and now I completely understand.
This book was a page-turner for me, I couldn't put it down. I absolutely adore the writing style, the format of the book with the short chapters and the fact that it's divided into 14 parts, each one containing around 4 or 5 chapters. I found it really easy to read and so, so much fun.
My favourite character is definitely Delilah “Lila” Bard. She's such a funny and amazing characters, always looking for trouble and finding it every single time. She is strong, she has a difficult past that hasn't been revealed to us entirely (I'm so excited to find out more about her). Her evolution throughout the book is incredible, how she goes from a thief that doesn't care about anyone else but her, to a gorgeous woman trying to save the world(s). I'm looking forward to reading the next books and getting to know her better, because I know she's going to be even more amazing that she was in the first book.
And let's talk about the gorgeous boy with hair like fire, and an eye that's a pool of darkness: Kell. I've heard so much about him and now that I've finally met him, I can say that he definitely lived up to my expectations. He's a beautiful character, he would do anything for his brother Rhy, the prince of Red London - and that's what kind of gets him into a lot of trouble.
I also loved the idea of different Londons in different worlds: there's White London, Grey London, Red London (that's where Kell lives) and Black London (that's been forgotten). Being able to travel between worlds must be really awesome for Kell, especially since he found Lila in one of those worlds. I can't wait to read more about these characters and see what happens next!
This is my favourite Cassandra Clare series. It's the best one she has written, thanks to these amazing characters that she's created and the action. I'm on my second time reading this series and I love it even more now, because Julian and Emma have never left my mind or my heart after I read this book for the first time.
They're the best characters she's ever written, so complex and so beautiful, despite their flaws and their bad parts. They're amazing, the Blackthorn family is such a pure thing and their relationships make me so emotional. I just love reading about them, imagining them eating pancakes made by Julian, laughing at Emma's jokes, trying to solve murders or just having fun together. Every single member of the family is special in their own way and I love all of them so much, they're the most amazing fictional family.
What annoys me the most about Rose is the fact that she gets so annoyed whenever someone calls her immature, especially when Dimitri does it, but then she goes and proves exactly how immature she is. I get that she is still a teenager, but she KNOWS she should not be acting that immature and she still does a lot of stupid stuff. I also started to get very tired of her emphasizing how curvy she is and how much better she looks compared to the other girls at the Academy. We get it Rose, you look good, no need to mention it every other page.
What an amazing conclusion to such a beautiful series. I fell in love with these characters and I loved every single book in this series. They made me laugh, cry, scream and feel everything at once.
I can't wait to dive into Heroes of Olympus and meet the new demi-gods and see Percy, Annabeth and the rest of their friends grow
I will never be the same person after reading this book. Also: thank you Sarah J. Maas for the reading slump that's going to hit me like a truck, just like the ending of this book this. I knew it was going to be good, but did I expect THAT? Oh, NO.
No spoilers here, just a heads up that this book is going to blow your mind. It sure did that to me. It was amazing and incredible and everything, I won't be able to stop thinking about this book for a very loooong time. And WHEN DO WE GET THE NEXT BOOK? I NEED IT NOW
This was SUCH A GOOD SERIES. I loved it so so so much, I will definitely re-read it in the future. Amazing.
This review contains spoilers
This book should sit in a corner and think about what it's done.
I have read the Throne of Glass series last year and it's became one of my all time favourite series. But guess what? I hadn't read “The Assassin's Blade” before, so I decided to read it now, since I'm going to re-read Throne of Glass. Oh, I thought I was going to be prepared. Plot-twist: I WAS NOT .
I finally got to meet the amazing Sam I've heard so much about and I loved him so, so much. Such a pure and amazing character, he loved Celaena with all his heart. And that broke my heart, because he will never get to know Aelin, he will never get to see her as the Queen of Terrasen. That's what I kept thinking about last night, after reading the chapter of his death. I was so angry, so hurt. His death was so brutal and he didn't deserve it. He didn't deserve it at all and it pains me to even think of it.
I KNEW why I've been avoiding to read this book. Now, after knowing the story of Sam and Celaena, my heart will never be the same. I will read Throne of Glass again and probably start crying at every mention of Sam. Before, I didn't understand Celaena's pain when she was talking about Sam. But now I will.
