It’s not the required reading order, but I highly recommend starting with the Grant County series before this one.

A few of my favorite things about R. Lee Smith's erotic horrors:

They're long, dark, and intense. The writing is excellent and keeps my attention. I feel constant dread and anxiety. The characters are flawed and interesting to me. I don't immediately forget everything as soon as I'm finished with the book. In fact, I need a moment (or several) to process what I've just read before moving onto the next book. They're truly unique, and I've had a tough time finding similar authors/books.

This was my first and (so far) favorite by this author. It was recommended as to me as "romance" so I had no idea what I was getting into, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.

I love that the main characters are older than I usually find in romance novels. Their stories are unique and interesting. I look forward to reading the rest of this series and pretty much anything by Crusie-Mayer.
