not my fave Cat Sebastian book.Â
i saw lots of rec's for this book having a Non-Binary MC and was so excited about that but was a little disappointed at the execution. the characters just felt very surface level and there's not really a conversation or internal monologue that delves into Robin's thoughts or feelings when it comes to her gender and as most of her gender expression comes form the way she dresses it just felt as though it could have been handled with a bit more care when it comes to the representation.Â
i have read reviews since finishing the book and there is apparently an authors note that gives some answers about Robin's gender identity. as i read the audiobook, this was not provided and doesn't really feel sufficient to me. i shouldn't have to read notes to understand the characters IMO
This book is amazing and beautifully written, but is is heavy. Another book to add to my âI did not see that comingâ list.
I can't wait to read more of Farryn and Jericho's story.
I went in blind and was thrilled with the characters, plot, and writing. The tension and banter between Silas and Quincey is glorious. We Stan a strong FMC.
I absolutely loved book 1, A River of Golden Bones, and was so excited for this book, A Sky of Emerald Stars. But it just didn't meet expectations for me.Â
What I enjoyed:
- Dual POV: we still get Calla's pov but we also get Sadie's POV and I really enjoyed thatÂ
- Character development: I feel like we got to see some really good development from Sadie and Calla, as well of some of the supporting charactersÂ
- The setting: Mulford never lets me down on her settings and the continuation of this world is no different! It was cool to get to explore more of the world in this book
What I didn't enjoy:
- The plot didn't really get anywhere. Like yes this is obviously stuff we need to know to move forward in the series. Setting up for a war and trying to acquire allies. But it just didn't seem like the plot moved forward. It felt like a side quest.
- The pacing: this dragged. I was tandem reading (ebook + audio) and I still had to take a break because I got so bored.Â
- The romance between Sadie and Navin: I hate second chance romances. It is so hard to convince me that they can actually make things work a second time. This romance was on the way to convincing me and then!!!! All of a sudden (IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIGHT) all is forgiven and they're saying âI love youâ. I went back to reread because I was SURE that I had missed something. I hadn't.
I honestly feel like this could have been a novella and It could have been a 5 star read. But here we are almost 400 pages and a 3.5 star. Â
** thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me an eARC and an ALC**
As a child-free on purpose adult I am not normally a fan of the pregnancy trope since it's not something I connect with. But the connection and tension between Megan and Jaxon is wonderful and the spice is
absolutely loved this book. The narration was amazing (Vico Ortiz strikes again)
Dami is one of my favorite characters of the year.Â
Do I think this was a necessary addition? No
Did I still love it? AbsolutelyÂ
I'm not sure why somethings happened or why we had a third pov that was in 1st person instead of 3rd like the others and it kind of threw me off. But overall it was still very enjoyable. I love this world and I love every single characterÂ
Don't be fooled by the title and cover, this isn't your usual fluffy holiday romance.
Reese's characters are always beautifully crafted and have so much depth and David and Naftali are no different. I found so much in each of them to relate to, from gender struggles to recognizing and supporting your neurodivergence. I was drawn in and found myself falling in love with both MCs which made it even more special to watch them learn and grow and fall in love with each other.Â
This book is funny and sweet but it's also emotional and challenging. I highly recommend
the adults in this family need therapy. immediately. they let her down. honestly i was just pissed at the adults the whole time. it was still a good book though Â
i need more people to read this. it was so good. i don't even like second chance romances lol
Golden Retriever x Black Cat, idiots-to-lovers. ill take one Black Cat Cinnamon Roll love interest for myself pls and thx
My absolute favorite in the series so far. I laughed, I cried (the emotions sneak up on ya in this one), and I fell in love with Jay and Alexei.Â
Chencia did it again. She never fails to make me fall head over heels for her characters. i loved the character growth and how much love was shown. not just between the love interests but between the friends and family as well.Â
The perfect addition the the Hot Queens! And even though it was only 127 pages Kat still managed to hit me in the fuckin feels
I have NEVER had a debut novel grab me and refuse to let go like this one did. This is the best fantasy romance I have read in a long time. It has everything; beautiful world building, fated mates, hidden identities, STRONG female MC, comic relief, character development, and spice.
I was hooked from the very first chapter. Lilian draws you into the world and characters lives. She kept me on my toes through the entire book and it was beautiful!
Fun read. The plot was good, the romance was a little fast but it was good. The writing style wasn't my favorite and I struggled through a bit of it but I liked it enough to not DNF.Â
I did not enjoy the un-ironic use of the word ârodâ in a sexual way.Â
so close to a 5 for me. there was one part that was a little off and thats why it's not a 5 but overall i adored this book.Â
