See allThis would be over 4 stars if I didn???t hate every man in the story drooling over 16 year olds.
Overall a great resolution to the series, in spite of my rating. While I really like Brown's writing and the plot overall, the ending didn't quite work for me. Not to say it was a bad idea at all, but the execution just didn't quite hit for me.
I'll probably revisit this series sometime, but I think Sanderson's writing style just got to me after reading a lot of his books in quick succession. His characters are still good, his prose is very accessible, and I really respect his focus on representation. However, I tapped out at the 4th straight book of “... and ANOTHER secret in _____'s past!!” like come on.
I really enjoyed the first book and probably would like the rest of the series, but I wasn't interested in following a primary protagonist who's an unapologetic slaver (at least at the moment in the current global climate).
The pacing is extremely confusing, and the characters occasionally only make sense. I feel like I might be missing some cultural context that would help in reading this book, but overall I kept reading to see if I would ever stop being baffled on the next page.
