this was the book i didn't know i needed. maybe it's because im a sucker for beautiful vampire boys, but hellie heat knocks it out of the fucking PARK with this one. i feel like this book could have been longer! mostly because i couldn't get enough but also because i feel like some stuff could have been fleshed out more. im so excited for the next installment hellie i would die for haven and cy!!!!!!
ARC REVIEW (Spoiler free)
5⭐️
Something I did not expect with this story was that it would be a high stakes fantasy with fantastical magic and cold hearted sorcerer villains but still be able to elicit the feeling of comfort and coziness through its characters, dialogue and setting. The author is amazing at tying these characters relationships together and keeping the reader engaged. These characters are loved, this world feels lively and I couldn't put it down. Not for just the story, but because I was so in love with Aaira. I cannot wait for continuations to this novel!!
J Bree fae fantasy?? fantastic. A little rushed at the end, but I'm so excited for the first book!!
I have never wanted to beat the shit out of a protag so badly in my entire life. 5/5.

i...... was kinda disappointed with this book. my expectations were VERY high because of booktok and tbh it was predictable and reminded me of another fantasy series ive read. it just. wasn't very original.

screaming and crying and throwing up
if bree, sel and nick aren't poly endgame im going to run into traffic
I loved it, a lot more than the first one. I'm glad I gave the series a chance. I love all of these characters and this world now that so much more of it is fleshed out. Ronan is still growing on me, but I really came to love Piper.
So, here's the thing. It's an easy read and the plot and concept is interesting enough to finish it through. However, the world building is really dull. You have a concept that could be so rich in description yet I have no idea what New Chicago is like. Piper, Nat and Ronan felt like empty husks and I just didn't find them to be very compelling over believable. I feel like this book needed to be a lot longer, which is why I'm curious to read book two and give it another chance. This is a great story in theory, it just needs more life.
my first dnf. the only pen doug book so far i could not get through. pls refer to aymans review, it sums up how i feel perfectly.
