This book went a lot more into AI solving games than I thought, but as someone interested in that topic I really enjoyed the book. I did think it would be more about the history of the games than humans using AI to solve the games. But again, interesting twist. If that sounds interesting to you then it is worth a read.
The best sci fi book I've read since Enders Game. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Plus - to my knowledge - the author isn't anything like Orson Scott Card!
This book made me think in ways I wouldn't usually think. It's a nerdy-noir-crime-drama-murder-mystery-sci-fi-fantasy-history-fiction-non-fiction-good-book.
Little Brother was a book I read many times over as a young teen. So reading this and seeing some of the characters years later was nice. I think the story in Little Brother/Homefront is a little more immediate (especially the former), but this was a good book. He may be a bit of a meme at this point but I do enjoy a good CD read.
Was a very entertaining read. Great stories from his childhood, Hollywood, and the Obama administration. If you like funny biographies I would definitely pick it up.
It did paint Obama as a total saint, which I don't think he was (though definitely better than some other presidents). So that kind of threw me off, because otherwise Kal seems fairly progressive. But he did work for the guy, so it makes sense.
I'd buy it, borrow it, etc.
I am not too much of a fiction/mystery reader. This book was good.
It was an interesting (though I think somewhat pessimistic) view of life in pre-apocalyptical world. I found myself reflexively drawing parallels with covid-19 in some respects. It does feel like the author must lean right politically speaking, as the attitude of the main character towards some activities seems fairly conservative. But I guess he is a cop. Good read, if not just for the lore. The mystery is more the cherry on top.
A worthy successor to Blood Sweat and Pixels. Really great look into an industry that can be not as great as you'd think.
I did enjoy the previous book more, as it focused wholly on the development of games, which made it a bit more addicting to read. But this was definitely a refreshing read and it was nice to see how each chapter linked into the next. It's a small world.
