There aren't enough stars on good reads!
God!
You know how sometimes you've to just stop, catch your breath and stare at absolutely nothing in an attempt to fathom the pure brilliance of something that just happened in a book!? Well, I found myself doing that constantly!
It was so darn gripping, so different from anything I've ever read! The plot, the characters, the twists! Arg! No wonder my mum has a horde of Alistair MacLeans!
The first couple of chapters are a bit slow, but if you stick with it, it will blow.your.mind!!
I can't wait to pick up another one 😋♥️
Growing up, I hardly ever played video games. I mostly spent my time reading, watching cartoons or playing outdoors. So in most parts of this book, I couldn't connect to what the characters were doing or experiencing. And I think for most people, this book is a comfort read purely for the nostalgia it evokes.
But I've got to say, even though I got maybe 1 out of 5 references made, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book was fast paced, action packed and I flew through it! The geeky banter was so much fun to read!
Switching to some negatives, the first thing that really annoyed me was the number of times trivial things were reiterated! I mean, I get it, a girl in the OASIS could actually be a guy called Chuck living in his mom's basement.I get it! Arg! But I'm overreacting haha. The repetitions stopped once the actual story took over or maybe I stopped paying attention to them. I don't know which.
Some details felt unnecessary but it didn't pull me out of the story so it didn't bother me that much.
So overall, this was a fun read.
If you were/are a person who likes to escape into video games and 80's music and movies are your jam, you'll LOVE this book. But even if you don't, the story is quite unique and entertaining and still is equally enjoyable! :)
I NEED TIME TO PROCESS THE BRILLIANCE OF THIS BOOK!
Bloody genius! BWISKENDIFNEKEODJRBYYWUWJWNOD!!!

Review to come.
I wish I'd read this earlier!
This book was perfect!! Don't get me wrong, I understand that Sanderson's writing is not at its best but WHAT A BOOK! I loved everything about it! It has a very interesting magic system, it had very loveable characters, it had characters I despised with all my heart and had an overall great plot line. And coming to political intrigue, yes yes yes!! If Sanderson were to rewrite Elantris at this point, I think it'd be one of the best fantasy novels in existence. Right up there with Stormlight.
Loved!!
Love the idea for this book. The authors note at the end made this read more special in a way.
This was PHENOMENAL!!
Things from the rest of the Cosmere are coming together! Yes yes yes!!!!!
This novella has one of my favourite side characters of all time! Don't you just adore Lopen!? Also, Rysn's POV was so fascinating! I loved the humour in this one and it also had such impactful moments. Just so good!
Ahh! It feels like I'm finally home! I didn't realise how much I missed being in Roshar!
I can't wait to start Rhythm of War!!! Screams
This one really surprised me! The title sounds like it should have been just another cheesy, breezy romance, but it's more than that!
I loved the father-daughter relationship. I LOVED January's best friend! It made me think of my best friend and how much I appreciate and love her. She's always been there for me. We live in different cities but I send her a text that says “I need you” and she'll fly right down ❤️. But I digress...
The book address cancer, domestic abuse, infidelity and how one copes and stays strong.
What this book is most about is that we have no idea what's in store for us. Life can really suck but it's also beautiful and we should think about our happiness at this moment in time and nothing else matters.
Throw in a little steamy romance, a brooding male protagonist, a sunflower-esque female protagonist and bam, we're at 4 stars
Updated review now that I've had some time to think about this book...
Things I liked :
1. The phenomenally brilliant Mechas! Super cool!
2. The ending!! Absolute roller coaster ride!
3. Some of the themes are extremely powerful. They really made me “feel” stuff. This book made me furious! It made me really really sad for and really feel for the characters.
4. The relationship in this book was beautiful. I loved the way it was handled. I loved how the author put forth their thoughts on polyamory. Beautiful
Outstanding!
My gosh! I loved everything about this book! It is literally the perfect book to get you out of a reading slump!
The narrative is spectacular and I loved the character work. The plot is executed with such brilliance and I was left guessing till the end! It's everything one can ask for in a murder mystery!
I'm definitely going read everything Seishi Yokomizo-san has written!
Five stars!!! (in case you missed the rating somehow
Finally! This is what I've been waiting for!
I've only just started reading romance so I don't have much to compare to. But I've never liked anything as much to give a 5 star to because most of the time it just feels so blah!
Finally I've read a romance that breaks some stereotypes. Finally I've read a romance with some depth and portrayal of realistic and complex emotions and not just filler content with a random over the top fight scene (over something so trivial that it's bloody annoying) and wild make up sex after.
Yas. Finally!
Alright, I have mixed feelings about this one. I really appreciate the book and what it stands for but it isn't my favourite, at-least not yet.
I feel like this is a book one has to read multiple times to fall in love with.
I don't know if this can be called a review, my feelings are all over the place but here goes!
We start off being thrown right into the world with little context and a lot of complex jargon (I honestly felt quite lost and had to read it along with the audiobook for a while to get through it). A couple of chapters in however, the writing becomes accessible and I started to enjoy it. So if it's your first time reading Dune, be patient. Try the audiobook. It's phenomenal.
Another thing that takes some getting used to, the POVs switching right in the middle of a paragraph! It was strange to read at first but I I feel like it made the scene clearer and more understandable. (The audiobook helps with this as well! :p)
The world of Dune is probably one of the best things about this book. It's so fascinating and the extent of thought and research that must have gone into building a world of this scale, unimaginable!
I loved the characters, the themes and ideas explored in this book. I probably missed a lot in this first read through, but I still think it's fantastic. The characters are so passionate and we watch them grow constantly. It's a ride!
The pacing was the one thing that really bugged me. We jump from scene to scene and every time I was left feeling like I needed to spend more time understanding what was going on. It was probably intentional but it annoyed me a little. The first part of the book, I flew through! The second part of sort of a drag and took me the longest to read but the ending, amazing! Though again, at the end, I was waiting for this big thing to happen, it doesn't and I felt slightly let down. It was a great ending nonetheless.
Umm, so I enjoyed Dune. It took me the longest time to read. I don't think I understood everything Herbert was trying to convey. I feel like I might like it more if and when I reread it.
I didn't really connect with this book in the beginning, but the last bit was so empowering and I loved it! It's well written, easy to read and it's a Greek Mythology retelling. What more can one ask for?
This has to be made into an anime show! Oh my god!
Never Die is fast paced and full of action. Every battle, every fight is so well written. All the strange and creepy yokai literally jump off the page!
It took me some time to adjust to the changing POVs. About half way through though, I really started to enjoy it.
The ending was my favourite part. The last couple of chapters were just outstanding!
I really really want this to be a show!
Well Dayum!!
I know this is a book that lots of people love but I DID NOT expect to like it as much as I did!
The beginning of this book focuses on setting up the world, the characters, the magic system and the lore and I personally really enjoy when the pacing starts off slightly slow.
I was invested in the story and all the characters almost instantly. The writing is extremely accessible and the character growth (of all our MCs) throughout this book, chef's kiss! They're so believable and relatable and I loved them all so much!
Now, you should know, I'm not a huge fan of extremely long action sequences but my goodness was this book an exception to that rule! The magic and the use in battle, urg! I have no words! The execution is absolutely brilliant! I had goosebumps throughout! No joke! Phenomenal fight scenes!
This book brought me so much pain and I enjoyed it so much!!
I'm so glad to have found this book when I did!
“No matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment.”
For the last couple of years I've been feeling stuck. I've felt like I've been living the same day over and over. I've felt like an imposter and struggled with relationships. I've always felt let down when criticised. I've felt like I'm not good enough and I always avoided taking risks due to fear of failure...
If you've ever felt these things, it's alright! You're not alone. We can fight it, we can be better.
This book delves into the differences between having a fixed mindset and a growth mindset and tells you how to actively practice and talk to yourself to overcome your fears. Dr.Carol gives us hundreds of examples of successful people overcoming hardships just by changing their thought process.
This book was inspiring. It was necessary for me to read.
This book will make you want to be a better person, try harder and make an effort to learn everyday.
I must say, there is a lot of repetition. I didn't mind that very much though. If that's something you don't like, skim through and find the parts you're interested to read about. Or just read the summary of the book and you'll be good to go.
Highly recommend!
This one really surprised me. I went in with just wanting to have a good time with some dinosaurs but it was so much more than just that. Malcolm oh Malcolm what a beaut you were! The witty banter was so fun to read! Chaos theory was intertwined so beautifully into the plot line.
Reading about the whole man vs wild and how advancement in science can prove to be a complete disaster is what makes sci-fi such an amazing genre. And just like that, another book is better than the movie. So much fun!
The audiobook was absolutely fantastic!!
Can't wait to see if the show has some of the songs!!
RTC... Going to go watch the show now :')
This one had me hooked from the very first page! The narrative is exquisite, the book is very intense and so full of emotion. I just couldn't put it down! It's all you expect from a book. It is a thorough entertainer 😋
