This is a great followup to Extreme Ownership. There is a reason humans have communicated via stories since the beginning of time, it helps you connect to what's being communicated. To those people claiming to sum this book up in one sentence, cool, you can do that with just about any book. To those people claiming this book has nothing to teach them, perhaps skip forward to the section on humility.
Very good book and fresh new twist on human history. Can't wait for the next installment.
I didn't love this book, which is unfortunate because To Sleep In a Sea of Stars was brilliant. I've really liked all of his books. To be fair I didn't hate it either. I just got tired of Alex whining all the time. I hope that in some future book we get some answers, and maybe some smarter explorers.
A fun lighthearted read. I'd love to read more based on the last few paragraphs of the book.
The whole thing felt kind of shallow and undeveloped. Lots of build up and then the “problem” resolved very cleanly and quickly with few surprises. This would probably make a good Michael Bay movie.
I won't try and recap the story as others do, I could never do it justice. As always, this isn't your OG dragons and spells fantasy epic which is the best part. I felt like the story move forward more in this book than the previous. Can't wait to see how the story evolves and involves the rest of the cosmere.
If you manage technology teams, stop what you are doing and read this book. Very detailed and backed up by data and case studies. If everyone read this, engineering teams would run so much smoother. Best business/tech book I've read all year.
Revising my review. This was a hard book to start, however once I got going I couldn't put it down. Determined to get this series done before the TV show starts
This is not really a book - but that doesn't make it bad. Just know what it is. It is a publication of Gallup research in a very concise format. “Chapters” are 2-3 pages at most. It covers the “what” and “why” but not so much on the “how.”
A third of the book is the documentation of the studies, that while very thorough, I doubt anyone will read unless research papers and academic journals are your thing. The last third of the book is dedicated to Clifton Strengths. Again not a bad thing just not really a book.
Also, not being able to get an e-book in the format of my choice is a downside. The only e-book format is for Kindle and it costs (currently) almost twice as much as the physical copy.
Took some time to get into this book but it was pretty good. Not my favorite Sanderson work. I know a lot of his stuff is technically Young Adult but this one really felt like it.
“Read” the audio book version. Rosario Dawson is amazing I hope she continues to narrate books.
Perry predictable, I hate when I think I have it figured out and I'm right. The entire premise has a pretty big flaw too. It might make a decent movie though
Merged review:

Can't say much as this is a 150 page spoiler so I will just recap my favorite line.
“You tried to rescue a boatful of people from a fire by sinking the boat, then claiming, ‘At least they didn't burn to death.' ” God hesitated. “You're going to punch me again, aren't you?”
Sad to see this epic come to an end. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it, I only wish I would get to SEE the end of it on TV as well.
I thought this book started a little slow, more than once I'm checking the page count wondering how it can wrap up in the pages left to read. I'm honestly not sure about how I feel about the ending. I feel slightly let down that there was so much build up to discovering the secrets of the “builders” and their enemy only to close the gates. LOTS of unanswered questions but that was never really what this story was about I suppose, even though the nerd in me wants answers. The best ending is rarely the one you want. At least its not a Stephen King time loop ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Having Amos show up at the end give me hope for a follow-on story
Loved the concept and I blew through this book in two days. I really love “grounded” science fiction. (aka, not Star Trek but I love that too so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ ) I'm not big on spoiler filled reviews but I did have one small issue with the ending.
Another excellent book by the authors of The Expanse. While the story is vastly different from The Expanse, I feel a connection between the two as they both delve into human nature. It's just a coincidence that I read this book after reading the Three Body Problem series. Now my perspective on the possibility of encountering intelligent life has become slightly more pessimistic.
This is an excellent book. Do not let the pathetic movie adaptation prevent you from reading this.
Probably the best book I've read in a long time. If you're any fan of science fiction this is a must read. Even if you're not a fan but you like to make fun of bad science fiction you'll like this book.
Card has called this his favorite book in a interviews. It may also be his best book, definitely one of my all time favorites.
This book was really terrible. I loved the premise and was looking forward to the story but the characters felt shallow and the dialogue was not natural. The interaction between characters felt more like a daytime soap opera. I'm not familiar with Childs other works but this was not good. Like other have mentioned there are a lot of technical problems too, each minor but there are so many. The best example is pulling up a “URL page” I assumed the author meant web page or URL but URL page? You can only see that kind of thing so many times before you want to stop reading.
