In the minority it seems but I thought this was so far fetched and hard to keep up with. I kept getting all of the characters confused and who was in a relationship with who. The twists had me rolling my eyes.
Way too slow for me and did not like the writing style or cast of characters. Looked up the ending and it wouldn't have saved the book for me
This was the perfect length and a great continuation to the story. I related to Bliss's anxieties about fitting in and liked reading Garrick's POV
Big thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was my first time reading from this author, and I would pick up more work from her! This was a thriller I didn't expect. The whole first half was excellent, working its way to a 5 star rating. I was surprised at the character development and loved reading about Vienna and Madison's friendship and upbringing and how they formed their band. I also loved the mixed media blog posts and newspaper articles sprinkled in. It's funny, because I enjoyed the past chapters more than the flash-forward chapters the day of the incident at the cabin. Part 2 fizzled out for me, and I feel like the story went on too long. The crime was tied up too quickly for me, and I didn't enjoy reading about the aftermath as much. What happens in part 2 was very predictable to me, and I wish the entire book could have been as perfect as the first half.
I really enjoyed this. It was dark, gory, suspenseful, and FUN! I liked the concept of vacation gone wrong and all of the different murderers. It was like if the Halloween Horror Nights House “Run” was a book mixed with Cabin in the Woods. My only complaint is that there were too many POVs that seemed too similar, so I got confused on who it was, and whether they were good or bad
At the beginning I enjoyed the multiple POVs, timelines, and the little sprinkles of mystery. By about the halfway point I had thought I was almost done with the book, only to find out I was midway through. This book is way too slow paced, and unnecessarily long. The ending was too confusing with characters coming out of nowhere to add to the “twist.” I also did not like many of the decisions the characters made, Titus's interactions were particularly strange, and how his family were so passive for his behavior.
Could not get into the very British writing style, the huge cast of characters, and the lack of a plot
This felt like a movie. My first experience with extreme horror. The death scenes are so brutal, to the point where I had to stop reading and come back to it later. But yet, I always did come back. This makes you feel disgusting reading it, but it's a bit like watching a movie through your fingers, you just can't look away. I loved the creativity in the kills, they were fun and I would LOVE to see this made as a movie. Slashers don't typically work because they feel very surface level, and boring. This one was paced perfectly. I loved flashing from Zoe's shifts at the gas station to the Prowler going on killing sprees. We didn't waste time getting to know his victims, we just went along for the ride.
I wanted to love this and just had too high of expectations. I didn't love the author's writing style and the characters were awful. I didn't care when they started to get picked off. I also felt like they read older than 13 years old, it was odd. It takes awhile to get going, but I didn't mind the parts when they were at the summer camp, I just found myself skimming to get done. I may read the next two somewhere down the line, but more so that I can have all three awesome covers on my bookshelf.
This was fun, and I liked the parallels to Sesame Street. It felt very Goosebumps to me, which I love, but I didn't love this. I would check out other “I found” books
Really liked the message and the poems from movies that I was super familiar with. I need to catch up on watching more so I can make the connections!
May pick up again just not in the mood right now. It was just too slow of a start, minimal dialogue and dense chapters, and couldn't keep the characters (and their relations) straight.
I've read books with the same plot and same twist before, but this was very readable for a YA thriller. I liked that it didn't read juvenile, and I loved the mixed media aspects! Kept me flipping the pages to see how everything came together. I liked the sad message the book had to say about girls going missing.
I had zero expectations of liking this, I thought for sure it would be a DNF. The beginning took a little bit to get into, but after a little it was nonstop action and intensity, like a YA No Exit. I suspected who was behind it all, but I really loved the journey to get there. I ESPECIALLY loved the scene with the elderly couple and the note. So sad they didn't make it.So many points I was holding my breath and the action hardly left the RV. Such a fun popcorn thriller! I also gasped a few times at the ending. I should have known Red wouldn't die, just by the book title, but it was still super tense, and the fact that the cop thought she was at fault made it heartbreaking when you thought they'd finally escaped.
Most of this book I loved, but funny enough not for the romance descriptions, although that was good too! Miles was so sweet to Daphne and it was obvious how much he cared for her. I loved the descriptions of the town and how Daphne was introduced to many aspects of it through Miles. Daphne's love for reading and her job at the library was so incredible to read, I could really see myself through her. Similarly, her relationship with her mom was beautiful and reminded me so much of my mom I was crying at parts. This book was as much as finding your place and discovering yourself as it was about the romance, and I really loved the character growth and development. Some parts dragged a little in the middle for me, so it's not a perfect read, but the beginning and ending of this were perfect!
I was really liking it until the big twist that Jessica was faking the whole thing and working with Natalie I really enjoyed reading about the kidnapping aspect and what Dominic did to Jessica. It was dark and terrifying and had potential to be a 5 until the twist when I just didn't care anymore
Was too boring and repetitive for me. I can't vibe with this author, I think this is the last one I'll try by her.
Parts I really liked, like Calypso and some parts of the labyrinth. But I felt like there were too many side characters being introduced and I didn't like entering/exiting the labyrinth so many times.
Premise sounded fun but I found this book very boring and the moms read way too similar, I had trouble keeping them straight. This would have benefited much better if it was written in first person, each chapter by a different mom.
I loved the atmosphere of this book, it was so fun to see the town and is perfect for Halloween. Unfortunately I didn't like the mystery aspect of it and I thought there were too many similar characters. I may continue with the series around Halloween time but I'm not in a rush to get back.
Was good at first, but no quotations bothered me. Reminded me of an episode of parks and rec
Was not as fun as I had expected. I didn't like the ritual storyline and the deaths were not as gruesome as I had hoped. There were also way too many characters to keep track of and the multiple POVs past and present didn't work for me. Tastes Like Candy was a much better and way more fun carnival slasher.
This reminded me of a Hilderbrand book with the multiple POVs, rich people drama, and the beachy vibes mixed with the thriller style of May Cobb-but not as good. I would probably read from this author again, I just think there were too many minor characters that didn't contribute to the story and just confused me. I also found the tennis plot very boring.
