Emma Rosenblum's Bad Summer People is a whip-smart, propulsive debut about infidelity, backstabbing, and murderous intrigue, set against an exclusive summer haven on Fire Island. "This roiling beach community satire serves up wicked, clever fun that is White Lotus sharp." --Kevin Kwan, New York Times bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians and Sex and Vanity None of them would claim to be a particularly good person. But who among them is actually capable of murder? Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker rule the town of Salcombe, Fire Island every summer. They hold sway on the beach and the tennis court, and are adept at manipulating people to get what they want. Their husbands, Sam and Jason, have summered together on the island since childhood, despite lifelong grudges and numerous secrets. Their one single friend, Rachel Woolf, is looking to meet her match, whether he's the tennis pro--or someone else's husband. But even with plenty to gossip about, this season starts out as quietly as any other. Until a body is discovered, face down, off the side of the boardwalk. Stylish, subversive, and darkly comedic, this is a story of what's lurking under the surface of picture-perfect lives in a place where everyone has something to hide.

This book was so much fun. Perfect summer beach read in every way. I did however read it during and after Hurricane Idalia so I did not get the joys of being beach side with this one. I would definitely recommend You read it that way. It is fluff, but the delicious, scandalous, rich-people-behaving-badly type of fluff. It's not Real Housewives idiocy level - these women play far too much tennis and do loads of beachy outdoorsy activities. Plus they have lots of sex, lots of fancy drinks, and dress up in fabulous beachy-chic fashions. PLEASE HBO make this into a movie! So go in with these expectations and you will enjoy it. Expect anything more and you will not have fun with this one.
This reminded me of a Hilderbrand book with the multiple POVs, rich people drama, and the beachy vibes mixed with the thriller style of May Cobb-but not as good. I would probably read from this author again, I just think there were too many minor characters that didn't contribute to the story and just confused me. I also found the tennis plot very boring.
I'm not sure how this reads as a thriller when the first 75 percent of the book reads like Desperate Housewives of jersey shore.... it took till 75 percent of the book to finally get into a murder mystery of a character and I felt like this last 25% of the book is rushed. I heard so many recommending this one off BookTok and would not recommend this one unless you are into the drama and catiness. Definitely not my cup of tea...It was laughable in some parts with how ridiculous the scandalousness was taking place but its definitely not something I could pick up again.
