This story is raw and upsetting and nuanced and I inhaled it almost in one piece.
It's a story about a family disturbed by religious fanaticism but mainly abuse, both emotional and physical, the descriptions of which can be hard to read at times due to the detailed accounts, but it's worth it. The book talks well of the nuances and shifts in the workings of such a family and the people in it are definitely not black and white, we see the horrible people do nice things as well and vica versa which makes it easy to put ourselves into the protagonists shoes.
I've read one other reviewer writing that perhaps Tara should have waited before writing her book as the story she told feels kind of unfinished and more of her way of working through her trauma. I agree, the ending kind of lacks a certain closing quality, But as it's a memoir and not a piece of fiction, that's understandable and the story itself is so strong and vivid and draws you in, that I decided to give it 5 stars nevertheless.

Moc doporučuju, zvlášť jestli vás jako mě stresují zvěsti konce světa kvůli ekokrizi atakdále
the irony of always reading this book when i couldn't fall asleep
summary: sleep is hella important, sleep 8 hours per day, sleeping pills are evil go to a therapist instead, a lot of ADHD is just sleep deprivation, let kids sleep in for christ sake and keep your room cool when sleeping
this book is at places wordier than needed but plenty of scientific info inside
I loved this. Loved the pacing, characters, plot, balance between the mystery and side storylines <3
Well, it hasn't happened to me in a long time that I would read a book in a day but damn! Love it, educational, funny, covers wide variety of topics and induces diverse voices, wholeheartedly recommend! (Alsoy 50th book this year, yay!)
a very important and cool book, i only wish the author went more in depth about certain concepts or topics (like self consent) instead of devoting so much time to greetings, even though i understand why he did that
hoping for a follow up book ♥
Took me like 50 years but finished! 3.5* it feels more like a cool concept and aesthetic than storytelling.I feel like the story doesn't make as much sense as I'd like. I just can't wrap my head around it
i love that in the film lucas lee is this douchbag and they have a long fight with scott but in the book they just kinda chill on a wall and talk and then scott tricks him into sliding down the railing
also they put a vegan shepherd's pie recipe in this one
kicked myself to read the first comic after loving the film for quite some time
it did not disappoint
internet is not ruining language, it's just innovating it
everything that we're doing on the internet has been to some degree done in the pre-internet media
✌️
A great summary for anybody who either wants to pursue polyamory or is just interested what's up. Some parts can be useful to people who just want to have better relationships in general, for example a part about jealousy. The book includes these cool questions and little homeworks such as “What does romantic love mean to you? What does it physically feel like?” that get you thinking about what you really want out of relationships. There's a little history, examples of the common relationship structure, things people are most afraid of, or people might ask about the most often. It's this very extended FAQ about polyamory but very useful and fluent read ❤️
look I'm sure people who are patient enough to try and understand this book think it's the most genius thing ever but it's just not my kinda thing
i wish i didn't have to rush reading it, hope i'll get to re-read it properly one day
3,5*
Dočteno stylem jako vždycky - přečtu hodně na začátek, pak po troškách a pak dojedu poslední ⅔ na jeden zátah
This book is fucking heartbreaking. And great. Description of what it's like when your family member suffers from addiction or depression and how it influences all other future relationships in your life. Religion and keeping up faith when God lets terrible things happen. Science and finding answers. 4,5/5
