Lovely story, lovely characters, lovely narration. On another note, Ms. Wells, if you are unmarried, please consider this note as interest in courting you. ;) You did an exceptional job narrating.
Ok, ok, I give it to you, this book is a page turner! I finished it faster than any other of the 11 books I read this year. Granted I called the ‘attacker' in chapter 1, even if there is a twist, that I won't spoil for you. All I can say is go with your gut, for some this will be an intriguing read, for others the repetition will drive you, it will be quick, it will be painless, it will leave you with a sense of wtf... but hey you'll make out better than “Chrissy” did.
this book is nuts, its whimsical and dark, thought provoking and mind blowing....its a fricken contradiction that i thoroughly enjoyed...
Very enjoyable. Hits you in the core, says so much about so many things, yet always comes back to the central theme.
<3 <3 <3 Didn't think I could enjoy a graphic novel so much! Looking forward to others now, truly.
I really enjoyed this read. It was a bit convoluted, with too much info, and too many points of view. But! Well worth the entertainment.
I haven't been this sucked in by a book since I read Diana Gabaldon's “Outlander”. Can't wait to pick up the next entry. Very promising series!
After reading several reviews for this book, I was a bit unsure of this read. It's one I've had on my TBR forever and as it was coming up in our Library Book Club, the first of the year...I couldn't resist. I dove in not really knowing what to expect, and was surprised and relieved by the feels I experienced during and even after (during my reflection) the book. I would highly suggest this book to anyone wanting to reflect on life's purpose, I would further not suggest this to someone who does not recognize the simple joys in life. Many of the negative reviews I read here on goodreads completely missed the mark on this one, I found them cynical, and completely unrealized. Like a man in a desert whose had a vision and chooses not to find his treasure.
Not one of my favorite Crouch books but definitely worth a read. Desert Places reads more like a serial killers diary or a first hand account of trauma than fiction. It's a scary thing what humans are capable of becoming when their inner demons are released.
I can't say that I will run out and grab the next in this series, but I can say I'm not giving up on Andrew Z. Thomas.
After reading the book, I re-watched the movie, and frankly the book really was better. More focused on the forensics of the cases... and their is just some kind of gratification when the puzzle is solved and NOT everyone dies. Consider that a spoiler or not, whatever, but I didn't agree with a lot of the major changes they made in the movie, specifically to Rhyme and Amelia. The personalities and character flaws exhibited in the book were completely given up for the movie. Yes, they were two broken people coming together to solve some heinous crimes, but the empathy for Rhyme in the movie was completely wrong, and Amelia... damn she was a much stronger character, both morally and physically. I wanted to weep for the butchery done to this story, I see why they never made a second.
Now as for the book, I don't know if I will continue this series. It was a difficult read, and I don't mean that it was hard to read, more so that it took me FOREVER to get into the story. In the beginning I needed more time focused on the baddy, and less time focused on Rhyme being a quadriplegic. It literally took me two weeks to read the first 15 chapters, and less than 3 days to finish the book. It really did pick up which is why the 3star review. We'll see.
I really really enjoyed this book.. It's scary and creepy...and the spiders. ugh. I give the 4⭐ rating for two reasons... 1) it reminded me way too much of some of King's work, and 2) it wasn't what I expected albiet still a very thorough, well-written, and creepy as feck story... So wish I hadn't read the epilogue...
What a great little nugget! So good and so quick, over in a blink. Leaves you queasy with anxiety and wanting more.
I am shook. That ending was so left field, she home ran it out of the damn realm. That being said this book had me in it's grip, I really enjoyed every moment my mind spent in North Hampton BUT I often found my thoughts drifting. So was it me or the book.... Either way I can't say with an ending like this one that Im going to run out and read the next in series.
I love this book. Everything I learned and everything it stands for. Cannot wait for the sequel.
