love love love.. 5 completely different, completely insane stories - highly recommend!
Chapter 24 and 25 were hard to digest... Stalker much?! But the rest of the volume was full of that delightful awkwardness of the lovely Komi amd Tadano!
This read is a slow burn, ignited by alternating realities into a blazing inferno! Crouch cleverly uses memory as a transportation device, and takes us through time and ‘space' to undo one travesty after another, but to what end? I couldn't believe the heart-pounding side effects reading this one, could-not-put-down, doesn't begin to cover it.
I hated all the characters in this book. I hated how fickle the MC was. I hated the adultery. I hated the MCs decisions and their effects. I loved the creep factor, and the psychotic behavior, topped with anxiety and fear. I loved the weirdness of it.
BUT...
IMHO the real predator here, the real manipulator, wasnt Verity...it was the husband.
Middlegame may be the Best Book I've ever read. Intense, smart, with an implacable understanding of humanity that is driving the storyline. You need to read this book. That is an order. A command. An adjuration.
I'm not crying youre crying...
I give this series my whole heart and all the feels therein.
Perfection.
Torn doesn't begin to describe my feelings for this book. I wish I had known what I do now before I picked it. Frankly, if I did, I wouldn't have read it. It's a relatable, emotional coaster of a book. The MC Penn is so self-absorbed and fickle, she drove me absolutely crazy. The thing about that though is I am not absolutely sure I just didn't see too much of myself in her. Penn faces many struggles, being a mom of two and married to a man following his dreams, she puts herself on the back burner. Probably has done so one too many times. She's at a point in her life where everything is unstable, and she's beginning to resent her relationship with the world her complacency has created. It's not until her world is turned upside down that she has this awakening and every little thing she has nitpicked in her recent life has become a problem that must be solved, and now. I was left asking myself who Penn was having a love affair with, Jenny or Jenny's Blog, because it certainly wasn't her husband. Penn gets so trapped in what she thinks her life should be that it leaves this gaping hole of nothingness. It pained me to read this sometimes, pained me to see her work her way backward out of this struggle. Where the book does end optimistically, I would still like to state that Penn is not fine, and she should really see someone. Till next time Pagan...
This was sad. Upset I didn't see that coming, it's a shame. The reality of it is that I'm not surprised by the extent of the evil people are capable of.
This book is a cozy cuppa pumpkin spice latte topped with whipped cream and cinnamon sprinkles
Such a balm to the heart and a comfort for my mind. Loved this and will def continue the series.

“...and she tore the stars apart...“
The Women Are Some Kind of Magic series is formidable. As a collection spoken with honesty amd reverence it is nearly impossible to not find a bit of yourself - the self that you were, would've been, or are - inside. Kudos to Ms Lovelace for producing a collection of the times, for women whose voices haven't yet been liberated.
Such a heartwarmer, can't wait for the next installation.
2nd read thru just as amazing as the first. I adore Nick and Charlie with my whole heart! I had totally forgotten about the drama with Ben in the beginning! What an ass! But that moment Nick pulls Charlie through the party I think is the moment I fell in live woth this duo.
Absolute insanity. What a strange twist. Def didn't see it coming. I still don't know how i feel about it.
UPDATE: It's been two years and still no one has educated me on what it was I missed! AND now Michaelides has another book out... dare I? Only time will tell.
I read this based on Blake Crouch's outstanding review, and against my GF Patty's hesitations. I fear I may never read a book based on his review ever again. I really truly do not understand the hype surrounding this book, if you do please PLEASE educate me on what it is I missed. As Greek tragedy's go this book was as flat as can be, a few interesting plot devices wasn't enough to save it, neither was the creep factor. As creep factor's go this was a 5 star...no joke. I would not want to have an Alicia, or a Theo in my life.
Overall, this was a bit of a clinical read, completely flat with whitewashed walls, and fluorescent lighting (harsh and highlights all the flaws)...bit of a bore actually, played out almost exactly as I thought with very few surprises, ones that made me go - “o - ok”... not “O - OK!” -.-
Well knowing this author I knew this was going to be good. It was! So good! Anxiety inducing, haunting, thrilling, oooo and those creeps. And of course one of my very fave genres def didn't disappoint.
Man these two weasled their way into my heart. I can't believe that they ended the way they did. Now I have to read book 2
