I was drawn to the book as I think culture in a workplace is one of the most important things to get right. And this book also stress that. But this book assumes the context of people working for a cause, ie in this case for their believes. Not al work places is the passion of their employees. Making it less useful for the rest of us.
Also is the multiple references to pseudoscience personality colours, making me doupt the rest of the validity of what the author is trying to say.
Finally I think that few workplaces has the kind of importance that motivates the 24/7 availability that the author expects out of their employees.
Though it drives on the topic of the importance of culture to employee and company fit. That's true :)
This is an amazing book to start a mind-blowing journey. The best part of this book is the enormous wealth of good leadership and learning literature it is built upon. But It is in it self motivating and guiding towards a more inspired life. What motivates us.AutonomyMasteryPurposeThe only thing I am missing is the Relatedness part of Decis theory([b:Why We Do What We Do: Understanding Self-Motivation 683539 Why We Do What We Do Understanding Self-Motivation Edward L. A model for how we think. Either fast and lose or slow with the possibility of more correct decisions.
Thinking fast we risk jumping to conclusions, not see the broad picture, have planning fallacies, framing based decisions.
Thinking slow: we can step back and compare things. Look out side the box. Look at the problem from multiple framings.
I think this is a book that I will read again in a year or two. This is my second reading.
I really liked this book at the end. Each chapter is something to learn by examples. At first I thought this book was just the same examples as always in Agile books. It turned out it went deeper in these examples and a good portion was examples that were new to me. The examples was more than just something to start with, it was the carrier of the bulk of the information. Charles made a great collection of examples to carry his point across.
