3,5*
I hate leopardstar but at the same time she is SO interesting
another note is that this book had quite a lot of formatting issues especially regarding featherpaw&stormpaw which made me SO confused and only bc of other reviews I knew this was not my fault but the editors
Spottedpaw was a fine character (i still very much dislike her) but first of all this could have easily been a more lengthy novel instead of cutting short! Second of all EW EW EW THISTLECLAW. And third of all, we practically knew all of this already? Insteaf we're just getting another POV of Bluefur giving away her kids (which we've read before). Don't get me wrong I loved their short conversation and the fact Spottedpaw/Spottedleaf protected Bluefur / Bluestar all these moons, but the rest of it is old content. I would have liked to see Bluefur/Spottedheart navigating their relationship as deputy (/leader) & med cat until the point in time where Firepaw joins Thunderclan. And then, last of all if Spottedleaf learnt her lesson with Thistleclaw why the heck is she grooming Firepaw later on? (I'm not saying Firestar was innocent in this, because he sure as heck wasn't) but man.
not starclan judging blackfoot as if they didn't give tigerstar & brokenstar nine lives too.
i did like this format tho. It was a good concept to show the past and then to give the life it belonged to
a great book expending on the existing lore, though i must say there are some continuity errors (oakheart's death?)
i love mothwing and her atheism but her atheism has always been clearly shown, especially in the later arcs and this makes it seem like she really wanted to keep it secret. Then secondly the editing was a mess - there were a lot of random time jumps which were annoying. I understand their function but it kept the story from flowing well
bristlefrost didn't deserve this
also why did it take like 6 series to FINALLY change something about the stupid warriors code
Snow lands on top.
This book is during some parts almost ‘boring'
There's no glamour or grand entrance. There is just a city broken by a war and whose hunger games are really not that big yet.
Snow, just eighteen here, and his classmates are assigned to be mentors to the tributes and from the start its clear these are not the hunger games like we know them.
Tributes are dead before they even get to the arena. Tributes are locked away in a zoo and no one to care about them. No one is actually watching the games and classmates talk about how the bad the games are actually, a lot.
But while Snow agrees, it's clear he actually thinks the games are fine. He likes control, wants it, most importantly: needs it and the hunger games give control to the capitol. Make it so, chaos will never ensue. And when chaos does break out: snow doesn't like it one bit. He doesn't like the mockingjays (who are mocking nature by his own words) and basically he doesn't like things he can't understand and in the end: he leaves them.
He takes control, make it so he is the one in control. Killed his friend. Left his lover (who left him? betrayed him? where did she go? where is she now?)
This book is philosophical and rhetorical about the means of war, violence and control. It's a lot about control. The creator of the hunger games confesses he hated the idea and had wanted to rip it, but by means out of his control his idea was put to action.
A lot of the action is near the end of the book and the first 300 pages can be a bit boring or less interesting if you're more into action packed books but if you enjoy character studies and lore it's a very interesting books and gives you another view onto the hunger games.
This book is absolutely amazing.
It completely lived up to its hype
Leigh's writing is just amazing and the story and characters are simply just written so well.
None of the characters in this book are ‘good' in the alignment way since they're all thieves and broken in a way, but I as a reader could root for them nonetheless since they all have goals and almost ideals to strive towards.
The book having multiple POV's didn't bother me at all. In fact it made the book better since the element of suprise was easier to keep!
The only thing I didn't like in this book was the ending.
The ending was kind of weak to me, but I'm still excited and curious of crooked kingdom.
5/5 to Six of Crows!
Ugh.
I am crying my whole heart out.
I liked the concept. I liked the characters.
What a great book to read and cry over.
What I perhaps liked most were the small chapters in between where random people had a chance to narrate and mentioned a certain scene we just saw with Mateo and/Rufus or are about to see.
I also liked the way each character had a direct influence on the other characters, since the gang with no name hit the car with the celebrity and that killed him.
I also have a gut feeling Victor is the one to hit Rufus, since he is speeding on his way to Delilah, but I guess we'll never know.
Spoilers ahead, obviously.
This book is... wild, a rollercoaster of emotions and actions. We have yearning, love, grief, everything a person could ever endure and more. And we never got a break of it, and I loved it. I loved the quick pacing, the constant action, the constant schemes and switching pov's that made it harder to think of what might come and what someone might know.
I found King of Scars incredibly slow, boring and frustrating for the first 200 pages or so, but as I said before that is absolutely NOT the case for Rule of Wolves.
This was an absolute thrill of a book to read and an absolute 5/5 star and now I feel like King of Scars deserves 3/3,5 at best.
Then, the characters.
Nikolai and Zoya are both favorite characters and I was glad to see their arcs be completed and their relationship finally being established as well.
I loved seeing Alina and Mal even if it was for a small while and the same goes to the Darkling, the only character who I didn't quite understand this book.
Nina was amazing to read about and her relationship with Hanne felt natural and cute.
I'm just quite happy with this book and I loved it very much.
What an excellent book though it did leave me with answers which frustrates me endlessly
Good book, interesting concept and plotpoints but a weak execution. For a debut it absolutely works and she has two books to go. I was disappointed with the actual caraval and the clues - I didn't understand any of the clues or how she solved them and I think that's my biggest issue with the book
quite literally devoured this book - it was so good.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters! Especially Takkan & Seryu along with Shiori who was a really enjoyable mc
4.5* stars
Okay, I truly truly loved this book. It was written so well and all the characters were mysterious, great and just terrifying. Every time I turned a page I was afraid it would turn to hell, reduce to ashes.
The only thing my heart does not agree with is Athena's betrayal in the end and the final chapter itself. I wanted to see and meet Zeus, maybe even a glance at Apollo and Athena who should have found a way to escape the Agon before it officially ended forever. I wanted more than just them becoming mortals in a mere second, but the rest was fantastic and bloody and gosh so much violence.
