It's kinda like two books. One while they are in school, when they seem like pleasant people, but there is no real plot, it's just stuff happening like Dazed and Confused. Then one after they graduate where there is slightly more plot and all of a sudden they are all assholes. I won't be reading the next book.
Bogs down in the middle half with tales of pedophiles, pedophile enablers and some dude named Haughey. I could only take so much and figuring there must be something else happening on their fair island, I skipped a bunch of that... it got old fast. But the first and last quarters are quite enjoyable. I think some editing could have been employed in that middle section. Four stars for beginning and end, 2 stars for middle rants, I mean, I get it, lots of really bad shit was going on but it really felt like beating a dead horse, for an average of 3 stars.
I mostly liked it, however, for a book that is supposed to be about how most people are good, he spends quite a bit of time discussing various assholes. I wish it had been more positive.
I'm calling it on this book. Got through the first half in about 2 days and now, well over a month later, I still haven't finished. Problem is, is it started great, but then about half-way through they added a whole mess of new characters and every body's voice had to be heard, even the secretary sending dull boring office-speak email had to be included word for word. It got too scattered and lost its direction. Oh well.
