3 things I am very happy about (in no particular order):
- Finally being able to go through trc related tags without worries of spoiling myself.
- 3 is DEFINITELY always better ;)
- This action packed and emotional af roller coaster ride from the beginning to end of this wonderful series. I totally wish I had read them sooner (especially after finding out Maggie Stiefvater was in town a few months ago for her book tour - alas). Looking back from the first book to the last, my favorite thing about the series was watching the characters grow. No just individual growth but also growing as a group. I'm a sucker for found family themes so this was obviously a treat for me. Seeing the impact that these characters had on each other and how they all helped each other become who they are in the end was honestly lovely. FOUND FAMILY FTW!
I am now definitely a fan of Maggie Stiefvater's writing and I would totally recommend this series to others. Better late than never!
Oh. My. Gosh. This is definitely the best book in the series so far!! We're getting to the top of the roller coaster and it's going to be a crazy ride down. Also unlike the last two books this ending and epilogue didn't feel rushed at all. It all came together pretty well in my opinion without a lot of confusing. Can't wait to read the last book!
PS - I LOVE JESSE DITTLEY
Please allow me to wax poetic for a moment. I'm very endeared to this book because it got me out of a big reading slump, in a way that I could not put it down. Every free moment, I was trying to sneak a chapter. It was nice to get stuck into a book like that again.
It also introduced me to Fantasy Romance as a genre. I've been striking out with Romantasy but kept trying them to sate that craving. In the end, the romance is always too overblown and dramatic for me. Fantasy Romance and Fate especially is the perfect balance of fantasy action and romantic tension that I've been looking for so I'm excited to play in that sandbox in the future.
Ok, ok back to the book, I love how immersive Danielle Jensen's writing is, from the world building to fleshing out the characters and the magic system- you get a lot of background that helpfully adds to the story instead of bogging you down.
Speaking of characters - Freya might just be one of my favorite fantasy FMC yet. She's headstrong and fiesty (her bantering with Bjorn is what I live for). She also curious and so caring despite all that the gods/life has heaped on her.
Freya yearns for someone to care for her unconditionally. To not second guess her choices and to treat her as a person and not a weapon and that is Bjorn from the jump. He shows her with words and actions that she's worthy of her power and stands by her side with both her life choices and in battle.
(also his love language is definitely touch which for 100% touched starved Freya is a gift and she deserves
One word: INTENSE! I really enjoy part 2 of the series. It was great to see some of the characters grow into their roles in the group and see how far they go and what they accomplished together. There were some things mentioned that I totally forgot a bit from book 1 for instance NON SPOILER the network but I guess just as they would have forgotten it in the post disaster world, the reader would gave as well. I'm excited to read the 3rd and final book in the series asap!
Enjoyed this book from start to finish. It really has everything: very reluctant questing, conflicted guilt ridden heroes with a heaping of self imposed duty that only serves to make them feel more guilty and conflicted, bad ass moms, vampires!!, talking swords, and soo much more!
There are so many intriguing characters in this story (kind of to the point I'd often forget who was who for a second but still great) and they all feel very flushed out background and motive wise. The couple flashbacks we get through out the story definitely help with giving them more depth as well.
My favorite characters were Bor and Alf aka The Suffer Bros. The two never meet in the story but they go along similar paths of living through the guilt and consequences of the things they've done in life. They're actually pretty heartbreaking now that I'm thinking about it
So I ended up loving this book! My heart feels like it's floating on a cloud! clutches book to my chest
My favorite thing about Alice Oseman's work is how she goes: “I'm gonna make you feel something today or else” and then proceeds to ruin you with all the emotions. I think Vol 4. might be my favorite so far. There's so much character exploration and deep emotional conversations. I couldn't get enough even when it hurt to read. Also Victoria “Tori” Spring is my hero!
Wonderful representation for quite literally all moms and I ADORE Max Rambaldi's illustrations!
Fun idea but the writing felt too repetitive and clunky for me to really enjoy. I couldn't get a good sense of either of the characters and didn't feel the Christmas vibes at all. There were some lines with really great imagery but other than those, it sadly fell flat for me.
The Old Republic series is quickly becoming some of my favorite star wars books. I think the targeted focus on the Sith is why. They're pretty complex characters and I always love getting hints of who they were before they turned to the dark side.
This is another great entry to series. My few cons are the battle scenes go on for chapters and chapters and as a result the book feels overly long but also very rushed at the end to wrap up character arcs. All in all, very glad I read it.
Drew Karpyshyn is DEFINITELY my favorite Star Wars author now and might just be my favorite all around author ever! ✨
3.5 stars
I loved... well.. maybe not loved but you know what I mean... Sibby is actually my favorite character in the Cat and Mouse duet so it was enlightening to get her backstory in Satan's Affair. Also her “meet-cute” with Zade is the best.
That said, I didn't enjoy the writing style compared to the main books. There was a lot of unnecessary repetition in sentences and the wording felt disjointed at times.
Reading this also let with with a lot more questions that I don't think we'll ever get answers to. Like who the hell is Kraven or better yet, who does Sibby think he is???
Crossing my fingers for another novella at least because I enjoy this series and need to know if Sibby is okay, please and thank you
Me every time Grey gets his shop wrecked by Quinn
also Grey... in decibels... what are we talking? just how loud is this man?
I normally have a tough time following battle scenes in books (especially ones in space) and end up zoning out but the way Admiral John Geary masterfully works the battlefield always holds 100% of my attention.
I didn't even mind The Dancers taking a backseat to internal Alliance tensions for so much of the book as they weren't really giving anything other than mild annoyance at their non-answers. Though, causing annoyance could have been their aim all along hmmm.
Enjoyed this one much more than Resolute!
