“Billions of years ago, land took shape - what will you look back on when you grow old?”
I absolutely adored the art style of this book. It looks like a mix of paper piecing and acrylic paint. I'm not sure but it really holds your attention along with the unique page sizes, and simple yet thought provoking text.
Recommend!
Such a great read! The last few chapters had my heart pounding and I couldn't sit still. I had to read while pacing XD I think I'm gonna wait a bit before jumping into Catching Fire. Just to give myself a little break :D
Going into this book I knew the subject would be heavy and Mia Siegert definitely delivered. There were multiple times though out the book that I was trying to read through tears. That's how amazingly realistic her writing is. It grabs you and you don't want it to let go. I didn't not want to put it down and as a result finished it in about a day. While being a closeted lgbt athlete might not be relatable to all readers, there are definitely situations and feelings that all readers can relate to whether from personal or second hand experience. I would definitely recommend this thought provoking novel to others athletes or not.
I read this book all through out my local pride week (my first!!) and it couldn't have come out at a better time. It's the feelings of post graduation terror, some DEEP soul searching, desperation for love, and that fulfillment when you finally find a place that at the moment in your life, feels like home. I honestly can't say enough good about this book and how it was exactly what I needed right now. I definitely recommend especially as a pride week read!
adding to lifetime faves shelf
Fun, action packed, and exactly what I hope for when reading a book about a video game that I will probably quit 10 min in because fighting games give me anxiety
Certain issues stood out as my favorites such as issues 11,12,and 14 and I've read them multiple times but there a more issues that I just read once and set them to the side. I enjoyed the stories for sure, I always enjoy the timeline building in this series (even thou5the end of 17 is going to drive my crazy until March) but they didn't feel as fulfilling as the others in this arc. Either way I can't wait (seriously I don't think I'll make it!) until the new arc next year and I'm looking forward to continuing with this great series.
I was never big on Narnia and I think that's what really attracted me to this book. Every Heart A Doorway is what happens on the return trip. Seanan McGuire created something special with this story on how this trips to distance, magical world effect those who visit them. It's just a fresh take on these types of stories with a lot of uniqueness added into the mix. Every character has their own story and motives. I found myself finding favorites every chapter. The inclusion of positive gender and sexuality representations was a MAJOR plus for me. I honestly didn't know how this book would end or even how a chapter would end. I appreciate it for not being predicable. All around, fantastic take on a subject we know well. I will definitely recommend this book to others!
I always enjoy these High Republic pictures books for how they can simplify the (in this case - truly traumatic) events of the adult and ya books in a very attention grabbing and emotional way for younger readers. Paired with the fantastic art and fun sound effects in Hoopla Read-a-long version, what's not to love!
I love vol 2 probably even more than I love vol 1 and I love vol 1 A LOT! The combo of the storyline coming to a peak, amazing characters, and even more amazing art totally made this vol for me. Seriously, I had to stare at issues 7 and 8 for a while I don't know what it was because the same artists worked on every issue I believe but those two issues blew me away art design wise! I can't wait to dig into vol 3 asap!
This book is so wonderful and important and relevant. As a reader you're able to gain a little more insight on how a person young or old might be feeling when they are struggling to find the right gender identity for them. I think Alex Gino did a wonderful job at making the topic understandable for middle grade readers while still being enjoyable to older readers. I definitely had to hold back some tears a couple times as I was reading this in a car full of people but they good cries out way the bad in this book!
5 stars - well deserved!
5 stars! Actually 10!
me behind my mask while listening to psalm for the wild built at work:
Wild, wild, wild! I need Crooked Kingdom in my hands now. I don't read much fantasy/magic genre but I loved this. Next to the pretty much non stop action my favorite thing about the book was learning more about the characters backstories. Each character having their own chapters to share an event in their own pov was absolutely perfect! Jesper's pov is still my fave but Nina is a tight second.
How many hours until I get CK?!
I picked up some of the latest issues so I decided to do a full re-read mainly to make sure it was as cute and as awesome as I remember it being... It is!!
Double the action from Six of Crows and so much more. I wouldn't be mad if there were more books :))) but this was the perfect ending to this story. I'm so glad I decided to read it.
Third times a charm (in terms of me finally finishing the book). I really wanted to love this one especially since I did enjoy Lydia Kang's writing style but between Eiram and E'ronoh's pigheadedness, Axel Greylark's... everything, and the book itself just feeling a little too drawn out for me, I was left more frustrated and weary than in love. It's truly okay. Can't win them all (especially when I think about just how much High Republic I have read so far
The fact that Darrow didn't ask for any of this. He just wanted to do right by his wife after she was wronged. God.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are a little frustrating in the beginning but I eventually grew to appreciate them all even Marcello who's sudden appearance and lack of explanation of it still throw me off (I totally have to read the other books now and in the right order). I'm very happy with how the book ended and even found myself crying a few times at the end. So good!
Reading this book, I realized that I'm a little more... sensitive than I was when I read cat & mouse and satan's affair last year so this was definitely tougher to get through. That said, I think this is my favorite of H.D.'s books. The back-and-forth time skips were seamless and felt very rewarding when they finally converged. Molly is also such a well-rounded character. I was rooting for her the whole way. Cage... is peak alpha-hole BUT....he had his sweet moments when he opened up about his past so...yeah he's cool. Sidenote: Why can't I help but compare this man to Zade who is SO BUCKWILD - AND YET I like Zade better?? Let's not dive into that right now. Loved the mysterious Legion and Rio's cameo was soo good. I really hope we get to see him again.
All in all, I love how H.D. tied Molly into the main story with this book. I'm think I'm done with dark romance UNLESS it's H.D.. I just really vibe with her writing and can't wait to see what she does next.
one of my favorites so far, obi-wan really held his own once he relaxed about the rules and remembered what he is capable of.
I get why he especially is such a stickler for the rules with how desperately he wants to belong to something/doesn't want to be left behind/wants to feel important/ feels like he's failing it he doesn't do everything exactly right...
this one... i think there was just too much going on and not in a good way and even though many of them have interesting backstories, i didn't feel much for the characters.
kinda bummed i didn't love this one because drew karpyshyn is one of my fave sw authors but can't win em all i guess
i did enjoy the world building and the big plot twists which drew nailed.
A nearly perfect Beauty and The Beast retelling to me! The story is whimsical but still very grounded in reality. The world building pulled me right in as well. I enjoyed many of the characters, especially Beast who was never mean nor cruel to Beauty.
It was almost 5 stars but then Beast had to go turn into a human again
So this book started off pretty slow and didn't really pick up in action for me until the pages were in the hundreds. Many of the characters felt empty and one dimensional, and annoying. The one character that I thought could redeem the book ended up being pretty gross and scoff worthy majority of the time. The plot was so jumpy that I had to re-read sections to try and pick up something I was certain I had missed (pretty sure I wtf'd a more than a few times out loud) and extreme situations seemed to resolved themselves in a matter of paragraphs and felt like an afterthought.
This was my first taste of the time travel genre and this book kinda made me not want to visit again. The only reasons I pushed through to the end were 1. I think every book deserves a fair chance and 2. I have this horrible habit of not being able to quit a book once I've started reading it no matter how much I don't like it. Believe me, I've tried to stop.
Toward the middle of the book I had decided to give it 3 stars but after finishing it downgraded to 2. I wish I could have enjoyed it more because time travel really interests me but man this is just not the book.
I totally get it now guys lol. This book was awesome! I had so many revelation moments and I loved how everything came together in the end while also opens up for the next adventure. Also wtf Ronan lol
