It lost a star because the main character was insecure and kept being annoying about it through the first half of the book. Also I guessed the 2 main plot twists really early on. Nevertheless, I enjoyed so much this excursion into this fantastical zoo with it's multitude of interesting magical creatures and I kept picturing every scene that was set at the zoo in my head. Sidenote: this would make an amazing movie(maybe what should have been Fantastic Beasts...).
For the story, it would have been a 3 stars for me, but it gained a star because the setting and the creatures were so well thought out and put me in such a awe.

J'ai bien aimé découvrir l'univers qui se cachait derrière la porte de Jack et Jill, un univers qui, au final, fonctionne très bien avec l'atmosphère d'octobre. Je me souviens avoir beaucoup aimé les jumelles dans le premier tome (surtout Jack) et de visiter leur histoire dans ce tome m'a fait très plaisir.
Between this and Frankenstein that I also read recently and didn't particularly like I'm starting to believe that the classics are not really my cup of tea.
However, I understand why they are classics and that they bring interesting ideas to the conversation.
I already have other classics that I wish to read in the future and I will not abandon my quest just yet of finding a classic I vibe with
4,25⭐️ J'aime l'idée que toutes les croyances cohabitent et que selon tes croyances et ta culture tu vis les choses en concordance avec celles-ci.
J'ai beaucoup aimé cette histoire de quête d'identité à travers ses racines, mais aussi à travers ce que ces racines veulent dire pour soi-même. Le parcours intérieur de Coralie est très intéressant et il m'a à la fois apporter des réponses et des questions par rapport à ma propre identité. J'apprecie l'honnêteté et la vulnérabilité dont l'autrice et artiste à fait preuve pour nous livrer cette oeuvre.
4,75⭐️ Wow! What a fun ride this story was, the characters and the places were so vividly described. I loved all the details put in this story and the care to make sure there were somehow whimsy on almost every page.
This story was such a wild and fun ride and I really enjoyed not knowing exactly where it would take me and how I would get there.
I'm so glad I found this book browsing in my Goodreads and that I made the choice to break my self-imposed book buying ban to read it! ❤️

J'apprécie les éléments avant-gardistes qui ont été apportés dans l'univers littéraire grâce à la publication de ce livre et qui sont maintenant des éléments courant utilisés dans la litterature. Mais côté appréciation de ma lecture, je n'ai pas particulierement apprécier le moment passé à lire ce livre.
Le personnage principal est insupportable et je n'ai aucune compassion pour lui et j'ai trouvé que l'histoire avait beaucoup de longueurs(il est vrai que je lis très peu de classiques et/ou livres qui ont été publié dans un siècle différent de celui dans lequel nous sommes).
Les points positifs:
Ce livre est un excellent “conversation starter” et il ouvre la porte à de nombreux débats et discussion sur divers sujets. Pour cette raison il est encore très actuel au niveau des sujets abordés(c'est pourquoi je comprends son statut de classique).
Apprendre à quoi ressemble la version originale du monstre de Frankenstein vs ce que la culture populaire a conservé du texte original était très intéressant et ça m'a fait me poser des questions sur d'autres histoires et/ou personnages dont je crois connaître l'apparence ou les caractéristiques et qui pourraient s'avérer bien differents dans leur version originale.
L'ambiance gothique était également excellente.
I can't believe I finished reading this book(i forced myself to, otherwise I would have DNFed before I finished the first half(just so you know if you are in this situation, reading this till the end is not worth it if you are not enjoying the first half)), the characters were so immature, insufferable and horny... when I started the book, it felt so outdated I thought it was published in the 90's, but no it was a way more recently published book, it's almost unbelievable that this was published in 2020...
Maybe I would have given a better note if it was not sooooo damn long. The story could have been completed in 300 or less pages and we wouldn't have lost much of anything.
It felt like when there was a conflict, the characters never resolved anything really other than by having s*x, I believe that 1/3 of the book was spicy scenes. And the main guy just threw money at every problems...
I'm pretty sure I won't ever read another book from this author, I know many readers love her books and I am happy for them but I won't be joining their ranks.
I think I hadn't read the summary before reading the book, so I was expecting a small town contemporain romance. I did get one and I also got a new chief of police heroine trying to solve a mysterious death.
All I can say is that both sides were well executed and I'm curious to read the other books in the series and see what's gonna happen next in Quincy, Montana.
The characters were well fleshed out and I really like the setting and the towns people.
Side note, the covers are beautiful
Wow! Un livre tellement plein de revirements! Je n'aurais pas pu prévoir ce qui allait se passer en débutant ma lecture! Je pense que c'est mieux de lire ce livre en ayant presqu'aucune de dans quoi on s'embarque. Le bonheur est aussi dans la découverte!
Je peux toutefois vous garantir que la route est agréable, quoi que parfois quelque peu déroutante! Marie Potvin ne m'a jamais déçue jusqu'à présent! ❤
