Truly a gripping finish to a trilogy that for me started slow. I loved the bittersweet ending, and as gut wrenching as it was, I'm glad it didn't end in sunshine and daisies. Can't wait to get to the next story with Fitz!
4.5? So far with the two Mistborn books, I've trudged through about the first half or so and then breakneck finished them. There has been a spot in both of them where its about 11pm, I'm 75% done and I realize, I'm finishing the book tonight, tomorrow be damned. With that being said, I wish we could get to that point in these a little faster.
3.5 / 5 - not as engaging as The Goblin Emperor but liked the little murder mystery story.
Really enjoyed this. Found the first half to be the best as it dragged just a bit in the second half.
I enjoyed the prose and it being written as an in world history. Towards the end the multiple tellings of similar events by different first person accounts dragged on a bit.
Much better than the first book in the series. Moments of humor, heartbreak, and battle. Really great overall.
This book was really fun but I think the audiobook might have made me not like it as much. The audiobook was well narrated but highlighted how over the top a lot of the dialogue felt. This was a fun read, but tropey and over the top.
Read over a couple of sittings and it truly is an amazing read. It's a great commentary on the rise of Communism in Russia and the evolution of Stalinism within the Soviet Union. Reading it today much still holds true when looking at how a cult of personality can develop around someone and how those in power can shirk the rules of their own creation.
Not a bad look into the life of Major Winters. The best parts were seeing some of the more blunt comments Winter's made through interviewing and getting to hear his real opinions. The author's writing style wasn't really enjoyable as he seemed to skim over large chunks of time with sometimes just a few words. Overall an okay book, but definitely not as good as Winter's autobiography written with Cole Kingseed.
3.5 rounded up. The first part of this was slow. Once Ged shoes up it got much more exciting and enticing. For such a short book this a slow burn.
3.5 rounded up. I can tell that this book is a great work, but it to me feels dates. I wish there was more in depth exposition and world building. This is obviously a biased look after reading more modern fantasy that at times can have too much world building.
