This book is so clever at times. I stayed up way past my bedtime to race to the ending.

When the hell is the next one coming out?

This series is fantastic and highly recommended. And bloodydamn heartbreaking.

Probably the book I've been most excited to read for a long while. It did not disappoint. Completely in love with it.

Slight spoilers below:

Love that Harkness subverts the damsel in distress theme. Diana does not walk into danger blindly despite being totally obsessed with Matthew. She listens to advice. Such good character development from the first book.

Harkness does not muddy up her book with by over-explaining every unusual detail. She knows her readers will just figure it out, even the more abstract magical ideas, and I love her for it.

Also, there are some truly hilarious lines that had me laughing out loud. From almost every character.

I just want to give Gallowglass a big hug.

So much room to go in this universe? Are we sure it's just a trilogy?

I think this will be a hit this fall when it releases. Loved the gritty nature of the story. Fell in love with the misfit cast of characters.

Not sure I would have liked this as much in paper as I did the audio.

I find it funny that people are reviewing this book saying it has no plot... the plot is huge. There are so many different ways it could go. I listened to the audiobook which really helped me get into the story quickly.

Yes, the book is long, but Chakraborty is setting up a MASSIVE world on the scale of Game of Thrones with just as many warring factions. I loved this book. I guess if you don't like political intrigue, you may not like it.

Yes, it does take time for Dara and Nahri to travel to Daevabad - this is an epic, people! You have to establish Nahri's relationship with Dara. That does not happen overnight.

Anyway, I don't use GoodReads much anymore, but I had to come on here and say my piece. Totally out of my element here as far as the folklore that inspired the story goes - but I really enjoyed it.

–MINI SPOILERS–

I loved the feeling that Nahri was not sure who to trust when it comes to the oral history of Daevabad and the Djinn - is Dara just as bad as everyone says, or are the Qahtani's lying about a whole lot to keep the throne? Probably a little of both. History is written by the victors.

Totally ship Muntadhir and Jamshid. Excited to see Ali's fish powers.

Can't wait for Kingdom of Copper!

Destroyed this book in a few days. Only took a break to sleep and go to work. Obsessed. It's genre-bending and I love it.

Raced through this book faster and faster as it went on. The journey that Brown takes the reader on could have been too much too fast, but somehow he gives enough detail that I pictured everything easily and only in hindsight realize that Darrow goes from a hole in the ground to winning his year.

I was completely immersed. What more can you ask for?

While Eo is kind of a hollow character for me, every other character grows and develops and I find it fantastic.

Can't wait for Golden Son.

One of the best books I read this year. Couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one!
