Some storylines were more exciting than others, but overall, it is such an elaborate book that the few lengths weren't ruining it at all.
Exciting from cover to cover and – as usual – a wonderful writing style! I hope the second book will be published soon!
It took a long while to get into the book, but the second half I've read in only two days. An emotional, captivating story, incredibly beautiful writing style.
Well written or not, it's not “brave” or “shockingly honest” (words this book was described with) to torture a girl to death in a novel. Torture Porn just isn't my cuppa tea ... but then again, nobody told me to read this book in the first place.
Precise rating: 3.5 ⭐
During the second half I asked myself constantly how there could still be so many pages left. But it was never boring. Oh, and Freud would have had a lot of fun analysing the countless sex scenes. I thought some of them were unnecessary (and unnecessarily disgusting).
I liked this one! Mostly because fucking Bill Compton (god, I hate that guy!) was absent most of time. And Sookie's new lover seems like the best catch for her so far.
Precise rating: 2.5 ⭐
... and another 2.5 stars it is ... good-but-nothing-special entertainment ... nothing more to say ... moving on to the next one ...
Precise rating: 2.5 ⭐
To be honest, I wasn't that interested in the whole witch topic. But besides that, this one was as entertaining as the other ones!
I have pretty much the same to say about this book as I did about the ones before: A fun, quick read. Looking forward to part 4!
Precise rating: 3.5 ⭐
I liked the story. I'm ambivalent about the ending, but I don't hate it. I really didn't like the characters, though. The problems the people in this book have are too extreme for me to relate to any of them. Also, the vulgarity in this book felt very forced to me. Maybe Flynn wanted to get some point across, but to me it just seemed unnatural.
Still, I didn't feel like my time was wasted with this book, I just hoped for something else.
This book, more so than the first, made me realise how different the book series is to the TV series. So comparing the books to the TV show isn't the best idea, because it makes the books, at least for me, seem incomplete, since all the storylines besides Sookie's are basically non-existent.
Okay, to be fair, this is only the second part. I don't know at all what is yet to come. But that's my impression so far. Anyway, it was a quick, fun read (or, in my case, listening experience) and I love the trash-literature feel to it.
Precise rating: 3.5 ⭐
This one is as brilliantly written as the others. I do like Cersei and Jaime and I wouldn't per se mind at all that this book strongly focused on those two characters. Though I felt so bombarded with politics and names in some of their chapters (gosh, is there anyone besides Martin and his helpers who understands the Frey family tree???) – I just couldn't follow at times and had to read summaries online.
I loved the happenings in King's Landing anyway. And Brienne's, Arya's and Sansa's chapters were great! Everything else was great in fact! And now on to the last book for now!
Precise rating: 4.5 ⭐
Great, great, great! Still extremely intriguing despite me already knowing most of the story. Martin simply knows what he's doing.
Precise rating: 4.5 ⭐
It was a great idea to read (well, listen to) these books again – I forgot how bombastically this series starts. Martin really is a brilliant writer!
