As an audiobook it was very entertaining. I can imagine it to be a bit slow at times had I read it myself. The ending was very King-esque: kinda random and anticlimactic.
I felt like the story lost a lot of weight due to the fact that people were basically in a trance when doing the pranks for Gaunt. It wasn't really about how far people would go to fulfil their hearts' desire. Though the ending felt like exactly that was what King intended the story to be. And it just wasn't.
So instead of a deep story criticising consumerism or whatever – which it could've been – it was just a pulpy, entertaning novel. That's fine, I like that, but let's drop the pretence, I'd say. ^^
This book was an easy and fun read! Nevertheless, I guess I'm a bit spoiled by the HBO show – I really missed all the other characters' storylines. On the other hand, this different direction makes me really look forward to the next book!

The second part unfortunately included even less BAAAM than the first. There wasn't a strong story either. I just expected a bit more, but at least the ending made me look forward again for part 3. I won't give up yet!

I came to the conclusion that I really dislike Funke's writing style. It's weirdly chaotic and hard to follow. Exactly like the first book, this one felt like it was missing a guiding thread.
Not gonna read the last one.

I was so disappointed reading this after the great 3rd book. It was just ... messy and boring at the same time. Maybe I'll try the 5th book sometime. Maybe not. It has no priority right now at least.
