So yeah, this was a good book! It's a quick and easy read, and I really enjoyed the science fiction and philosophical concepts that it touches on. My only real complaint is that it only takes a shallow dive into the character of Bob and his struggle to define himself. That's really a problem with my expectations and not with the book though.
Short and Sweet read, definitely pick it up if you like spaceships with a bit of nerd culture sprinkled on top. I'll probably finish the next two books in short order.
The Mistborn Trilogy is by far the most intricate, well planned, and just plain cool plots I've ever read in a fantasy book. Every little detail in all three books plays its part, and every plot line was eventually concluded beautifully while still somehow serving the greater narrative.
Like the other two, this book spends about 2/3s of it's length setting up the ending. It's a slower read, but it always had my attention and it always left me wanting to see what happens next. Oh, and that ending... wow. Sanderson pulls no punches here.
I'm really not sure how to rate this book. I don't think it was written as well as the previous two, however I'm also at a loss for words on how well it's wraps up the story told by the trilogy as a whole. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say this: read these books!
I first tried to read this book and was immediately put off by the complex world that the author has constructed. It felt daunting, and didn't feel like I was in the right mindset to let myself get into the story. I am SO glad I kept reading because after the first few chapters I could not put it down!
Wonderful characters, a bleak yet engaging world, political espionage, and Allomancy (a cool magic system based on ingesting and “burning” alloys in order to harness latent magical abilities). This book really has a lot going for it and I recommend it to anyone, especially fans of the fantasy genre.
It took me a bit longer than usual, but I got through it! I'm glad I stuck with it too, it ended up being quite the wild ride. Mr. King really sticks the landing on this one, and it had a lot of fun references to “It” and “The Dark Tower” for the fans.
All in all, a very good read and I definitely recommend it to Steven King fans.
I honestly have no idea what to think about this book. It is the exact opposite of pretentious and it made me feel all kinds of things about WWII that no other media has.
I really can't wait for our book club to discuss this one because there's a lot to unpack here and I don't even know where to start.
