Very enjoyable read. This book receives high marks in every area. The setting, story and characters were all unique and interesting. The writing was superb. I read the Kindle version and am now thinking that I want to get a print copy for my personal library just so I can read it again. It isn't a fast-paced read or full of action, so if that is what you enjoy you may be disappointed in this book. Recommended for lovers of literary fiction.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital review copy of this book.
I really enjoyed being in the Harry Potter universe again. The story was interesting, but if written out in narrative form and not in the form of a play, it would have been novella length. Because of this, there wasn't a lot of character development or a complex plot.
I did like the friendship between Harry's son, Albus, and Draco's son, Scorpius. It was also fun seeing all of the original characters as adults as well as the nods given to characters in the original series.
Would recommend to fans of Harry Potter. Just go into it with realistic expectations of what it is and you will enjoy it.
This book had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. That being said, I wish that it had continued being a straight mystery/thriller and not introduced paranormal elements. Those aspects and the ending of the book were both unrealistic and disappointing. Recommended to readers who want a thrilling ride and don't mind a paranormal resolution.
This series came highly recommended and there were lots of things that I liked about it. The primary one being the character of Goldie; she is vibrant and her personality jumps off the page. I did feel that the story could have been more developed and am hoping that improves as the series continues. Good start though with lots of diversity.
I don't typically read a lot of YA, but since this book is so highly rated, I thought I would give it a shot. It was an enjoyable read. It has an interesting premise and characters, a fast-moving plot and is well written. It doesn't have the nuance of adult fiction, but if you just want a good story or are in a reading slump, give it a try.
Enjoyable but fairly typical detective novel. I never really felt emotionally invested in any of the characters, which was a drawback for me. The story was fast paced and moved along quickly, which was a plus. Recommended for anyone who is looking for a quick mystery read.
4.5 stars. I highly recommend this book to readers across the entire political spectrum. The author's empathetic approach in how she conducted her research was appealing to me. She seems to sincerely wants to bridge the gap between right and left by understanding the “deep story” that we all tell when expressing our political viewpoints and values. This book is definitely a step in the right direction if we all want to understand one another better.
This was an okay read. The first 80% of the story was not stellar. I wasn't really drawn into the plot and felt no connection with any of the characters. The ending was good, however, with some action and surprises. Would recommend to fans of the author who don't mind a slow-moving mystery.
3.5 stars. I have mixed feelings about this book. It was very well written and the premise was unique and compelling. I just had problems connecting to and caring about the main character. Fun read for adventure lovers.
Another great installment in this series. In addition to enjoying the story unfold, I like watching how the characters are growing and changing as the series progresses.
I really wanted to love this book and start a new series, but it is not for me. I enjoyed Veronica Speedwell and the other characters but the story was just too slow moving.
12-19-23 I did a reread of this book and enjoyed it more the second time around. I am more interested in the characters now and am wanting to see where they go in the next installment.
3.5 stars. This book could be titled “The Girl on the Train, on a Boat.” The stories aren't exactly the same, but you have a similar unreliable female protagonist who thinks that she sees a murder. Can she trust what she saw? Are people plotting against her? What really happened? The story is the unraveling of all these questions.
The plot was fast moving, which was a plus. I also thought the use of news reports and online chat forums was effective in heightening the suspense. Overall, however, I found the characters to be shallow and the mystery pretty straight forward.
Would recommend to someone who wants a quick mystery that is not overly complex and doesn't mind the lack of character development.
Thanks to Net Galley for a complimentary digital copy of The Woman in Cabin 10.
This is a dark twisty thriller that was fun to read. The concept of the story was unique and it moved at a fast past. Would recommend to readers who enjoy this type of fiction.
Thanks to NetGalley for a digital advanced review copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this solid murder mystery. The setting and characters were all very interesting and the story kept me guessing until the end. This would be a good book to get a mystery lover out of a reading slump. It isn't overly long and the story is fast paced so the pages keep turning.
3.5 stars. Enjoyable read. The book was well written and the characters were interesting. The story ended up falling apart for me at the end, however. Would recommend to readers looking for a fast paced mystery.
I really enjoyed this face paced sci-fi thriller. The main character was like able from the beginning and it didn't take much to get me engrossed in his adventure. Recommend to readers who like science fiction, mysteries and page turners.
Thanks to Net Galley for an advanced digital review copy of this book.
This book has a unique (though disturbing) plot line and the story kept me interested and moved at a good pace. Entertaining read...I liked it enough to now move onto the second book.
I found this book to be fast paced and a definite page-turner. The characters were interesting and the scenario was intriguing. I am hoping that some of my questions about the world will be answered and the characters will continue to develop as the trilogy progresses. Recommend to those who like YA dystopian stories.
Thank you to Net Galley for a complimentary digital copy of The Last Girl.
Enjoyable, well written story with interesting characters. I loved the alternating story line and connections between characters. My only complaint would be that I wanted more of everything. Highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance digital copy of this book.
This author is a fantastic writer and I was completely hooked by this book. About halfway through I started to get vibes that this book was going to either be really fantastic or disappointing depending on the ending. I didn't care for the ending. If you want a different sort of mystery and are curious, pick this one up. It isn't a long book.
I loved the main character, Elka. She was so unique and compelling. The story was good though I found that it did lag at times. This book won't be for everyone, but if you are looking for something a little different, I would highly recommend it.
I was disappointed with this book. The main character was very superficial and this eventually became quite boring. I was willing to go along for the ride in hopes of some tension building and a mystery being solved at some point. The mystery part was very brief and anti-climactic to say the least. I would only recommend this to someone looking for a light read and not wanting any sort of complex character development or plot.
Thank you to NetGalley for a digital review copy of this book.
I am not a reader of romance which I probably why I thought this book was just okay. The writing, story and characters were all interesting, so if you like romance, pick it up and give it a chance.
Straight forward mystery novel with interesting plot and characters.
