This was an interesting reimagining of history. What kept me reading was my curiosity about where the author was going to take Hillary's story. It will probably appeal more to fans of Hillary but was well written and entertaining so anyone interested in alternate history or political stories should enjoy it.

This is the first short story I have read in the Forward Collection. I see that it has a low rating compared to the other stories. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading all of the others.
3.5 stars. Fast paced and twisty novel. This is a revenge story between two characters with emotional and psychological issues due to abuse. Even though it is fiction, that may be a barrier to enjoying this book for some readers.

This was a fun and enjoyable read. I found the character of Harry Dresden interesting and will pick up the next book in this series. The mystery wasn't the most complex, but I am willing to give that a pass since this is the first book and so much groundwork needed to be laid.
I really enjoyed the first half of the book and was drawn into the story and characters. The second half just seemed to drag and by the end, I had lost interest. The author used her writing technique of jumping from one timeline to another and from character to character as she did in Station Eleven. In this case, the story just wasn't as interesting.

I appreciated Demi's honesty and insights about her life. She is the narrator of the audiobook and I think hearing her story in her words added to my enjoyment of the book.
3.5 stars. I found this book to be well written and fast-paced. By the end I felt a sense of exhaustion which I think was one aspect of what the author was trying to convey about the undocumented immigration experience for those trying to escape violence or poverty.
Fast paced but ultimately forgettable. Mystery/suspense readers should enjoy the story, but there isn't much depth here.

The author did a great job of getting in the mind of the main character and the first half of the book kept me turning the pages. The second half was way too long and lost my interest. The writing was good and I felt that the author dealt with the dynamics of sexual abuse in a realistic manner.
I really enjoyed this book. Patchett is great at writing interesting characters that come to life. That was the strength of this book. There is some plot, but that is really only the mechanism that draws us into the inner workings of the main characters and the Dutch House. I didn't think this book was quite as good as Bel Canto, but I would still highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a solid literary fiction read.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this novel.
This is well-written and enjoyable literary fiction.
I don't recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fast-moving plot or lots of action. You will be disappointed.
If you love slow-moving stories, character development, and an emotional deep-dive, pick this one up.
3.5 stars. Interesting read but not as great as the hype indicates nor as good as her previous book, “The Unseen World.”
I think this book is a bit over-hyped. I enjoyed the premise (doors that are portals) and the writing, but I never really connected with the characters. It does lean toward Young Adult literature, which is not a favorite genre of mine, which may be why I didn't love it as much as some other readers. I would definitely read another book by this author.
Another solid addition to the Will Trent series. The suspense builds over the course of the story and the ending is satisfying. I enjoy the character development in this series which always causes me to give an extra star to my rating. Highly recommended for fans of this series.

I had high expectations for this book because of the author, topic and reviews. Even though I initially enjoyed the characters by the middle of the book, I wanted it to be over. I glad that I stuck with it, though, because the ending was good.
I really enjoy this novel. The story is interesting but it was the characters that I enjoyed the most. Gilbert has a way of making them all so fallible and loveable at the same time. Highly recommend!

Nice, fast-paced mystery read. The buildup was interesting but I found the ending a little disappointing. Solid but nothing really surprising here.

I loved Dark Matter so I couldn't rate to read Blake Crouch's latest novel. I have to say this one was just so-so for me. I liked the premise and the writing was good. However, I found the intricacies of the science behind the time travel and how it related to memory to be convoluted to the point that I lost interest. I also never felt fully invested in the characters. By the end, I just wanted to see how the story was going to wrap up so I could be done with it.
I will definitely read more by this author and recommend this book to readers who enjoy a fast-paced, sci-fi story. It may be more your cup of tea.

I listened to the audiobook and it was very well done. The narrator added to the creepy atmosphere and suspense as the story unfolded. I found it to be a compulsive read and would highly recommend to mystery/suspense fans.

Loved it! Great world building. It made me interested in reading other the Theonite books.
