I really wanted to enjoy this book. It was an easy read, but the story wasn't compelling. I typically enjoy reading about characters in multiple dimensions of time, but how it was portrayed in this book was not that interesting. Very average read.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC.
I love the idea of this book and reading about Native Americans. Their mistreatment was succinctly described and formed the basis for the contemporary story that followed. I found the characters and plot interesting, but there was so much going on for such a short book, I never felt like I got invested in the characters. The writing is good, so this may be your cup of tea. It was only a so-so read for me.
I loved Dark Matter so I couldn't rate to read Blake Crouch's latest novel. I have to say this one was just so-so for me. I liked the premise and the writing was good. However, I found the intricacies of the science behind the time travel and how it related to memory to be convoluted to the point that I lost interest. I also never felt fully invested in the characters. By the end, I just wanted to see how the story was going to wrap up so I could be done with it.
I will definitely read more by this author and recommend this book to readers who enjoy a fast-paced, sci-fi story. It may be more your cup of tea.

I enjoyed this creepy young adult horror novel. The premise was unique and compelling. The first 75% moved along at a steady pace with all of the fast-paced action happening in the latter part of the book. The ending was satisfying.

This book was a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed the setting, characters and basic plot. I didn't mind the jumping between the three different timelines as they were distinct enough to follow. However, about halfway into the book, I felt that the story became very convoluted and lots of things were happening that didn't really move the story along.
This book pulled off something very unique for me...it was suspenseful and humorous at the same time. The main character is very self-absorbed. The extent of this and details of his life are slowly revealed as the story progresses. The tension continues to ramp up as we discover more about this character and his life. I listened to the audiobook version and it was well done and an enjoyable ride.
The premise of this book was so intriguing. It reminded me a little of the Hunger Games in that young people are forced to participate in an activity to the death as a form of entertainment for society. The story mainly focuses on the inner lives and relationships that develop between these young men as they walk. I found it to be compelling and depressing. The ending felt a little flat. 3.5 star read for me.
3.5 stars. This book was a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed the writing and dual timelines. The comparison between what was occurring in the past and present was interesting to me. At the same time, the characters seemed one dimensional and there wasn't much nuance when it came to their views on social and political issues. It is worth the read if you are a fan of Barbara Kingsolver and like literary fiction. Otherwise, you might not find this to be a compelling novel.
This book had a fantastic beginning and I was very drawn into the story and couldn't wait to see how it would unfold. As it progressed, however, I became less interested in what was happening and was quite disappointed with the ending. The writing was good, but the story seemed repetitive at some points.
After reading “The Life We Bury,” I was looking forward to reading another book by this author. During the first 3/4ths of the book, I thought that the plot was predictable and the story was so-so. The final 1/4th turned things around and surprised me, which I really enjoyed. Looking forward to reading more by this author and recommend to readers who enjoy mystery/thrillers.
First, let me say that this is a thriller that kept me turning the pages. The story is compelling and drew me in from the start. That being said, much of the plot and actions of the characters seemed to me to be unrealistic. Thus, if you are looking for a tightly woven plot and believability, you might not enjoy this book. If you are willing to just go along for a crazy ride, though, this is an enjoyable read.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a digital advanced review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was unsure about this book at the beginning since it seemed to have a slow start. Little did I realize that the author was carefully laying down her story piece by piece and that it would all come together in the end. The main character is smartly written and the story was satisfying in the end. I would recommend to those who enjoy literary fiction and don't mind a plot that develops slowly.
My expectations were high going into this book and in the end, it didn't wow me. The story felt long and meandering and the main character, Toby, never really grabbed my interest. There were elements of the mystery that I enjoyed and the reveal was satisfying, but much of the book felt like a slog to get through.
This was a fun and surprising read. The main character, Murderbot, is a robot-human hybrid and is so interesting and well drawn. I was fascinated from the start. Since this is a novella, the story just scratches the surface, but at the same time felt like a complete unit. I am so happy there are more stories in this series.
