See allSimple, beautiful language. I enjoyed being transferred into China during the cultural revolution. The story is very simple and easy to follow, at the same time I was very touched by the smaller and bigger personal tragedies!
Btw, I read the Everyman's Library edition which is superbly done!
The plot was intriguing at first, but I just couldn't buy the way the characters acted. Some of the conversations by letter were just nonsense, they would work if email had existed at that time.
Very interesting book, which gives some good insight into people's lives in the 1950s, culminating in this devastating northeaster.
Very honest life story. Too little focus on the actual running part for my liking, easy to read and entertaining.
