Excellent and mind-blowing book about how entire cultures are manipulated for pure profit by cartels, myths out of whole-cloth.
This book is available online from the author's website, for free: https://www.edwardjayepstein.com/diamond/prologue.htm
An important and deeply disturbing book. I could only get 51% of the way through, but that is not an argument against it, but rather indicative of my own stamina.
Brilliant read. Goes through the literature and provides an excellent and fair discussion of strategic planning. And then descends into inanity. So very sad.
Plot was too easy to figure out. Otherwise Ok. Samuel Tay is still a great character. The others, not so much.
The ongoing series is still pretty good. Waiting for “at least one more” as per the author. Worth the read.
Honestly I'm surprised I got this far (Vol. 6), the amount of repetitiveness and descent into vague ramblings is now a huge percentage of the book. Look, it makes sense if the author really doesn't have anywhere to go, has no idea of the next steps in the plot, etc., but kindly stop publishing books when that happens! The series is retroactively ruined. I've got to hand it to any readers who made it past here, don't you have enough of the brassiere sizing embarassments?
Too much anti-covid nonsense, put-downs of Thai police, and insupportable outcomes of motorcycle accidents without helmets (alive and... nothing wrong???!). Not to mention anti-climactic end. Great detective character let down by sad plot line and background. Ah well, end of a good run.
Got halfway through and I could care less about rabbit foot at this point. Sure he is growing, but not gaining in intelligence, and certainly not luck. Everyone almost massacred all the time. Give it up already.
A brilliant novel, both highly informative and highly entertaining. Can't say enough good things about this book. Well worth the read.
Pretty good read. Riveting for my 6 and 8 year olds. Could have had a better overview of how much an area was affected, inside the novel, not just in the notes.
Nurtureshock by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman is an amazing read that challenges so many preconceptions we have about children and child-raising. As the parent of a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old I can say that this book has had a big impact on my thinking.
There are so many insights across the chapters, that for the sake of my future self, and any interested in this book, I will provide some detail of what I learned in reading this book.
