Overall I really enjoyed the book. There were a few weird deus ex machina moments for me, but each story was entertaining enough that I didn't really care.
I very much enjoy Sapkowski's writing style (barring his habit of cutting off characters' sentences with “nobody ever found out what ~character~ was going to say” which was funny the first few times, slightly annoying when overused) and it was easily digestible for me. The story titled “A Question of Price” was very detail heavy and tough to keep up with but it all worked out.
Looking forward to the next one when it comes in the mail!
This book had no semblance of a plot in the conventional sense. Not many captivating events happen in its 550 pages. Additionally, many people hate it and many people love it. These features alone should mean that I personally would want nothing to do with this book. Instead, for the last five days I read it whenever I had the chance, learning about the humble, unlikely family on Himmel Street. I became immensely attached to the characters and despite the endless spoilers from Death, the narrator himself, the ending hurt me. I respect everyone else's opinions, but this is the way I connected with this book.
The world, the magic system, the characters. Everything excellent. Loved this book every step of the way.
P.S. Vin frowned.
I think this was probably just as well written at the first, but it gave me some anxiety with all the back and forth political and relationship stuff going on. As such, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first one, which I gave a 5, so I gave this one a 4. The pacing in the middle was definitely a bit slow too. Excellent climax sequence though.
