It was OK.
I am not found of retelling because of course they are predictable.
I am curious to see where the story goes in the 2nd book.
4,5 ⭐️
This is still not the most original serie but the 2nd book is sooooo much better than the first one ! For sure you must read the 1st to enjoy the full plot and reveals.
It really got me into the story and I am looking forward the next one.
This book is a must if you want to initiate yourself to UX Writing.
Full of insights and example it is a true companion to improve your writing in your day to day work.
I received this book as a gift and was surprise to discover it is a children's book.
I love the idea of the illustrations by the children and the beginning was quite intriguing but at the end it really feels like a book which should be half its length.
Overall it is a nice and original fairy tale; but as an adult I found it really long and quite difficult to continue in the middle of the reading.
Can't imagine reading this to a kid or recommending it as a gift.
Writing is still good but sincerely not a great read.
For sure the best book of this kind I have read for 2 years.
The universe is original, the character are deep and well written.
I wasn't able to put it down since I started and had to read till I was exhausted.
Everything is such a good surprise and almost everything is unexpected. Can't wait to read the following book I have massive expectations !!
Neverwhere is Alice in wonderland if Alice was a twenty something Londoner businessman in the Nineteens with Doctor who vibes ”.
This is a very bizarre fantasy and I could feel Gaiman style as I watched the adaptation of Good Omens.
He tells a story it's own way and with a brilliant imagination. It is told in a really photographic way and I wasn't surprised to discover it is actually a Tv show adaptation.
I am really difficult with urban fantasy and I know that this book is not a favorite to me. But I would highly recommend the read to a lot of person around me that would know how to appreciate this.
You did it again Sanderson. As the first book of this serie, I don't know where we are going with this serie. I don't really care because I am just enjoying every minute of the read. Some people could consider it slow paced but the universe building and character psychology is so good that you just want to spend more time in this universe.
One of the best trilogy I have ever read. These three books were amazing, well built and always surprised me in so many ways. It is difficult to build a world but it tends to be even more difficult to properly finish a story. I was not disappointed. I'll def read more of the cosmere.
I was so intimidated by Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere because it is such a beloved universe. My expectations were over the roof. I was not disappointed. This book is an absolute masterpiece. Read it.
I really forced myself to read this book.I though it was immensely boring.
I almost avoid reading this book at some point. I am not found of retelling so maybe this is one of the reasons, but I really didn't see the point of this story.
This is my first book from Marie Ali and assumed it's not representative of her work.
This is not my favorite Sanderson and you can feel that Elantris is an earlier work of his.
Anyway, I still found what I really loved about Mistborn. Loveable crew of characters, humour and complex storylines with an original magic system.
The end kept me wanting more of this universe ✨
I am not a fan of retelling but I have to say it was a great surprise. This is suppose to be a retelling of Romeo & Juliet and in some aspects it is... but I wish I didn't know. Because it doesn't really add to the story.
Shanghai in the 20s, what an amazing and interesting time to tell a story. Gangs, drug traffic and speakeasy... loved the atmosphere and ended being hooked. You want to solve the mysterious events happening and know more about our heroes pasts. I also learnt a lot about Shanghai and it made me curious to learn more about this city story.
Highly recommend.
The only frustrating thing was not to find enough tile recently to read this book and dive in it.
The universe is quite unique with an incredible magic, but more than anything the author succeed to create this ambiance of magic and mystery. You want to unlock the secrets of this book as much as Lin want to unlock the doors of the palace.
Highly recommend.
This book is an absolute gem. A really unique reading.A treasure of a story about life and love.
Amazing.
The art is great and the story and universe original. But for a reason I can't really explain I just didn't fell in love with the story.
I would perfectly understand that people find it exceptional but I just forced a bit myself to read the end of it to be honest.
This book just confirmed that Leigh Bardugo is and will
remain one of my favorite author.
We leave the Grisha universe to dive with curiosity and fascination to a mysterious version of New Heaven she reinvented.
Difficult and dark, Ninth House is incredible.
A must read !!
So this is my first reading of V.E S. I found this book in my local bookstore and though it would be nice to start discovering her with her first book !
I have to say the writing is very good. I like the universe and the story of this suffocating village where fear reigns. I could perfectly see this book be a Hayao Miyazaki movie as its universe is beautiful, weird and intriguing. Sometimes you feel like all this story is a dream.
But god it is slow... I seriously think it could have been a hundred pages shorter and be a masterpiece.
I am really excited to read shades of magic soon and discover how this potential was then mastered in her next saga. Nice book but not a great one.
An amazing and well built fantasy standalone. So sad to see that the other serie by the same author has been discontinued or I would have jump straight back in this universe.
A great character centered story about duty, tradition and sacrifice with an amazing elementary magic system. Highly recommend this read !
On of the strongest and most original work of V.E Schwab I had the change to read and maybe my favorite.
Probably the first time I am addicted to a book with not much lovable character. Absolutely fascinating. Highly recommend
I had a great time reading Serpent and Dove. The first chapter didn't convinced me but the more you discover the characters the more you know about the story, the more you want to continue reading !!
This Book does have nice surprises, expected plot twist and less expected ones. Most of the surprising things at the beginning actually make a lot of sense when you finish your reading.
I especially enjoy the magic in this book and the fact that it is not a black and white vision. Everyone has it dark sides. There is not good or bad sides.
I def recommend this reading even though I have a real issue with the use of french in the book. It doesn't add anything to the story. It doesn't make sense at all... I expect they just stop it for the next book.
And again... Lou is not a boy name.
A must read for everyone living in Canada to better understand what was and is still the Indian act and how to work toward reconciliation with First Nations.
Really beautiful drawing and universe.
Loved the journey. I was a little bit too confused at some moments by the narration, that's why I gave only 4 stars. But I will def read more of Tillie Walden.
At first I was really surprised by the artistic direction but I forgot about it quickly.
Mira Jacob is telling her story, and with this story is trying to make her son ( and the reader) understand about racism and how it feels like to be a daughter of Indian immigrants in America.
She goes throught story about her past and challenge of her present.
It made me sad. It made me angry. And I still know that I will never truly understand the meaning of her story. But at least I am a bit more educated now.
Thank you.
I Though this book was really interesting, well built and def helped me question further my bias and consideration of my own position as a white person in a race based society.
My regret is that I would have love to find a kind of discussion with an expert, who is a POC. It makes me want to read more an educate myself further, but not with a book not written by a white author.
