3.5. Some interesting ideas, some good cultural parallels, but writing and forgettable characters hold it back.
2 stars. Sometimes engaging, clever, and entertaining. More often nonsensical and indecipherable. Just not my kind of book. Satire I didn't always get. Endless avalanche of references I didn't have the interest to research and fully appreciate. Appendices may have tied it all together a bit, but it was hard enough getting through all 3 books.
I loved this book as a kid, and it was easily as good when I reread it a few months ago. Just chock full of clever wordplay and vivid images. Great fun.
4.5. Real good. Nice clean effective moving writing. Great retellings of familiar stories.
3.5. Horrifying, confusing, dense, beautiful, poetic. A lot to digest. Worth rereading.
Closer to 3.5. Conceptually interesting, fascinating universe, good writing, just can't get into the art style.
Didn't actually finish it. Score is based on the ones I did read. It had a few good stores, a bunch of ok ones, and a few that were so bad that I decided to move on and spend my time reading other things.
Almost stopped after introduction praised humanity for eliminating war and disease.. overall an interesting read with some interesting theories about where humanity may be heading. But at times felt like a book length shit-stirring blog post.
