Pretty straightforward police procedural mixed with some Poseidon :) I loved how the author handled fleshing out a story that takes place over only a single day. Also some of the descriptions were really well done.

My favorite line:

“The clock on the squadroom wall, white-faced and leering, threw minutes onto the floor where they lay like ghosts of dead policemen.”

Good stuff.

I have been meaning to read this ever since seeing the Will Smith movie adaptation. I must say that this book has a much more powerful message. The movie reversed the message for whatever reason (Hollywood formula?) and I now consider “I Am Legend” a good zombie / vampire / whatever flick, but nothing more.

When I read the actual words “I Am Legend” in the text, it had a huge impact. It was one of those WTF moments that is really rare. I would consider this a “classic” as many others have already done. The internal struggle of Robert Neville about what he is doing to these “creatures” and his justification along the way is very well done.

I wish the movie had explored that instead of just making it another “Zombie” movie.

Awesome Read

Had no idea how much the Matrix pulled from this. Hell, even the idea of the Matrix was coined here. For what it's worth, this was so much better, even if it was written in the 80's.

Oh and you gotta love Dixie. Reminded me of Morte from Torment. Good stuff.

Solid advice and motivation with a little psychology thrown in for good measure. A little preachy and spiritual at the end for me, but I walked away with a better understanding of my own need for creativity.

So good. The background on Fezzik, Inigo and his father, and Vizzini that was not in the movie was particularly interesting. So many memorable lines.

Wow! I don't know if I have the proper words to describe this little masterpiece. It's heartbreaking and beautiful at once. It's made even more poignant for me as I have a child with special needs.

Not only did this novel tackle morality and treating others with respect, but it tackled some tough questions dealing with what it means to be human and the value of intelligence vs affection with relation to happiness.

I won't spoil the story for you. I will only strongly urge you to drop what you're doing and read this book right now.

Wow! Having never read this until now, I'm wondering how the hell we got to the neck-bolt wearing creature we have in pop culture today.

The only similarity is that the “monster” was, indeed reanimated. But, he spoke with eloquence and carried pistols. He was not some lumbering oaf, but a total badass skilled in the dark art of revenge.

Dude was a badass.

So pragmatic, shrewd, and terrifyingly efficient was Machiavelli's advice for ruling, can see how he got his reputation. His writings here are filled with cold calculation that would make any supervillian proud. If you are looking to write about a character's rise to power and glory, you would do well to read this little gem and have the character heed Machiavelli's advice here. Or not. That would be fun as well.

Can't remember the last time I read a book in one day. Writing is so good. New Chuck fan here.
