Oh well. It was a very disturbing read, with sick (& very delusional) characters and a meh ending.
It was fascinating though to get a look the MC's deeply deranged mind, especially how he thought of himself as the sanest individual in a wicked world (very delusional like i said).
Overall not the best book I read but not horrible either. And once again the ending was quite empty, I needed something more.
awfully good. such a good take on the way human morality can be heavily impacted by the presence or absence of regulations.
the way everybody tried to embellish and hide themselves from reality, the sense of normalcy thus created, the primitive survival instincts and selfishness that emerged : just wow
and the ending ????
Chilling, frightening, was losing my mind along with Kenji.
Have to admit it felt a bit boring at times. Took me longer than planned to finish.
But that may also be because I was too anxious about what was going on to keep on reading lol.
No but it was seriously so tense at times that's crazy.
An interesting take on mental insanity embodied by Frank. I enjoyed the portrait of Japan's night life & lonely souls as well.
The ending was a bit lacking though and some scenes were a tad too graphic but ig that's what I signed for.
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT BOOK !!
A slow & disturbing descent into madness.
Greatly exposes the way loneliness can break someone's mind & make them completely give up on themselves just for an illusion of happiness and affection.
She didn't care about how toxic and deeply harmful their relationship was as long as she felt loved. She was in utter despair to receive love.
Sickening psychological horror, 5/5 would recommend.
Sick. Totally sick. And I mean it. I have to take a very long shower.
If we forget these very mentally ill characters & the disgusting scenes, it was quite a good book.
Well written & quite humorous (once again if we forget the whole situation). I'm conflicted between liking the author or hating him with my whole soul for creating this.
I need to binge watch kitten videos now.
I don't get why it was marketed as “funny, quirky, humorous”. Didn't laugh a bit, just felt bad for Keiko.
It's a well executed deep dive into societal norms & the unfair treatment of those who don't fit in.
I really loved the ending, she finally embraced her feelings, her individuality and put it over what society expects of her.
I'm not gonna lie it was boring & sleep inducing at times but still a good book !
THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING
A soul crushing take on fascism & a deep dive into the effects of extreme despair and will to live on humans.
There were time I was literally too anxious to read because I was TOO INVESTED I felt like I was also hiding on the island
The ending quote made me tear up GOD it just tastes like hope and pain at the same time
Gobbled these 600 pages in like 2 days & im a slow reader, that's how good this book is
One of the most thrilling & emotionally engaging dystopian books I ever read
6/5
Was quite a ride, I literally took a break from reading because it felt too dark and heavy.
Gave what it was supposed to give, deeply frightens you.
A deep dive into the dark & twisted side of humanity, and that's what makes it scarier. No supernatural beings, just normal people that you could encounter in your corner shop.
There were some plot twists, some thrilling moments & overall that was a good book !
après avoir vu la hype autour de ce livre et étant une amoureuse du réalisme magique j'avais vraiment hâte de commencer ma lecture.
ce fut une aventure beaucoup trop confuse, que je me dois donc d'arrêter.
life's too short to force myself to finish books i'm clearly not enjoying reading.
a big let down.
This book felt like a fever dream. Surreal, weird at times, strangely addictive & beautiful.
Reading it was definitely an amazing experience and I felt completely immersed.
Murakami makes the unusual feel usual, irrationality feel rational.
I had so many emotions after reading the last page, overwhelmed by the beauty of Murakami's storytelling, its strangeness and that feeling of not having understood anything while having in fact understood.
I'm getting some sort of melancholy, even sadness thinking back at it. Like I actually lived this very story and it has now come to an end.
Definitely a great book.
I get bored very easily & yet I wanted more pages to just appear after reaching the end
Amazing story, the connection between Aomame & Tengo is just very beautiful. And this is coming from someone who usually cringe at romance in books.
The intrigue and whole cat & mouse story going on between the characters got me very hooked and immersed.
I was holding my breath on the last pages, sharing their apprehension and anxiety.
Definitely a great book !
I lost my love for reading years ago, and I think this book just bring it back to life. It was really beautifully written and easy to read.
Felt like I was enveloped in an eerie atmosphere when reading it and it was definitely an amazing experience.
I definitely recommend it to people like me, who are seeking to get back in touch with reading.
