tried hard, like really hard but i can't get myself to like it. it was just so boring, filled with unnecessary details & somehow to dense for me
it's not you, it's me
i officially despise back to back alternative timelines
& this book just lost me idk, it just wasnt as good as i expected it to be
and a LOT of things were just trop tirés par les cheveux honestly, at some point i had to violently roll my eyes
it was doing too much, too many twists, too many reveals, too many turns, & those hallucinations? ass
very unsatisfactory read, 2.5
après avoir vu la hype autour de ce livre et étant une amoureuse du réalisme magique j'avais vraiment hâte de commencer ma lecture.
ce fut une aventure beaucoup trop confuse, que je me dois donc d'arrêter.
life's too short to force myself to finish books i'm clearly not enjoying reading.
a big let down.
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT BOOK !!
A slow & disturbing descent into madness.
Greatly exposes the way loneliness can break someone's mind & make them completely give up on themselves just for an illusion of happiness and affection.
She didn't care about how toxic and deeply harmful their relationship was as long as she felt loved. She was in utter despair to receive love.
Sickening psychological horror, 5/5 would recommend.
THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING
A soul crushing take on fascism & a deep dive into the effects of extreme despair and will to live on humans.
There were time I was literally too anxious to read because I was TOO INVESTED I felt like I was also hiding on the island
The ending quote made me tear up GOD it just tastes like hope and pain at the same time
Gobbled these 600 pages in like 2 days & im a slow reader, that's how good this book is
One of the most thrilling & emotionally engaging dystopian books I ever read
6/5
2.5
that ending ruined everything like c'est beaucoup trop tiré par les cheveux, nothing makes sense
i will give freida props for the writing style tho, she really succeeded to sell the image of the tormented daughter who can't stray apart from her dad's path until the little revelation (i was kind of seeing it coming but still)
but again the whole harper thing is stupid, novelas type of plot twist
not a bad book, really nice premise but badly executed. imagine she was just delusional all along and actually the killer ? much more interesting.
because her 360° from having des tendances psycho/socio to just being a friendly surgeon makes less sense. you know what maybe the author actually did too much of the “serial killer daughter persona” bc im realizing it really makes 0 sense. fallait plus de subtilité
Oh well. It was a very disturbing read, with sick (& very delusional) characters and a meh ending.
It was fascinating though to get a look the MC's deeply deranged mind, especially how he thought of himself as the sanest individual in a wicked world (very delusional like i said).
Overall not the best book I read but not horrible either. And once again the ending was quite empty, I needed something more.
2.5, for the plot
90% of the book was overly descriptive, i forced myself not to dnf it because of the plot but damn it was not a pleasant experience
the reveal was very predictable, still i wanted to see how it would actually play out & was def expecting something better than what we got
i really liked the portayal of denial & how we lie to ourselves when confronted to traumatic situations, the switch that happened in her mind when she finally accepted reality
very unsatisfactory ending but i get it
très bonne idée une bible fiction like this mais ça garde un goût d'inachevé
very meh, & anne's a dumb bitch
whole thing would've been 200 pages shorter if she just called that damn police officer
also makes 0 sense how margot or wtv he's called got NO sort of punishment for his absolutely careless, selfish and stupid actions
2.5, took forever to finish
dnfed, excruciatingly boring
i get thats the point, to show the contrast between his extremely boring lifestyle & the violence he partakes in with the same lack of emotions but damn this is just painful to read, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE BRAND OF EVERY ITEM EVERY CHARACTER OWNS PLEASE
took me forever to finish, thats how i know a book isnt for me
alice was just too stupid, made too many dumb decisions. like why are putting your life at risk by involving yourself in something that NOTHING to do with you ???? why are you still interacting with a man you've only known for a year & who blatantly lied to you ???? why are you still in the house
this entire book was built on stupidity im sorry, if she was a normal person she'd have just moved out, fin de l'histoire
the plot twist was good tho, which is pissing me off because it would've been an AMAZING book if not for mc's questionable decisions
the dead sister's name being nina does NOT explain her crazy involvement in this shit
2.5
the writing style was simple enough to keep me engaged & completely pulled into the story
the plot twist definitely got me fooled, like i was acting so smug thinking i solved everything then boom
there's nothing crazy about this book, i don't have any strong feelings about it but it was a nice & quick read
the locked door is basically an aliexpress version of this book lmao
tried to give it a chance but clearly it feels like there's no plot, & the narration style isn't really my cup of tea
A THRILLER THAT ACTUALLY MAKES ME FEEL THINGS
brooooooo i read everything d'une traite c'est incroyable
this is such a good book with a nice writing style (was too descriptive at time but i skipped allat so
NVM im not about to read 200+ pages of non-consensual bdsm, i feel bad for her & i hate anne rice
dnfed 10%
2.5, very average sinon mediocre
hated some of the pop culture references, hated alex & her stupid decisions, & the whole book just wasnt as interesting as i thought it would be
also pretty mediocre dialogue & immature GROWN ASS characters
hated that story within a story situation, also disliked the way the ending felt rushed
Sick. Totally sick. And I mean it. I have to take a very long shower.
If we forget these very mentally ill characters & the disgusting scenes, it was quite a good book.
Well written & quite humorous (once again if we forget the whole situation). I'm conflicted between liking the author or hating him with my whole soul for creating this.
I need to binge watch kitten videos now.
That was weird. I basically expected something else ? It started off interesting & just kept getting quite weirder & weirder. And that ending left me hungry & dissatisfied.
Wouldn't say it‘s a bad book, but it was just confusing, the whole plot got me lost like what was even going on exactly ??
