If you like ACOTAR, this is a good read. It's more YA, but has the same feel. I look forward to the second book with the ending the way it was.
It's a really exciting concept, but nothing substantial has happened in the first 200 pages of the book. DNF. This was my first BOTM purchase.
Wow. This book is a wild ride. A true masterpiece. A few of my friends laughed at me for reading a book about a pandemic during a global pandemic, but the premise intrigued me.
A fantastic read. I couldn't put it down. The ending was beautiful. This is a must read of 2021.
I don't cry at books, but the acknowledgements at the end got me. I am a healthcare worker, and the fact that Katharyn Blair mentioned that in the end just choked me up.
Listened to the audiobook version. I loved it!
A great read! I loved the cast of characters Finlay finds herself involved with. I can't wait to read the next one!
So funny. Loved her inner dialogue.
Beautiful stunning excellent Nessian content but the ending was rushed as all hell and that made me sad. Still 5 stars cuz Nesta is a bad bitch.
I can't believe I'm doing this but.... DNF. Not into the first scene when Poopy pretends to be someone else and let's Hawke kiss her. Not into him calling her Princess. It's cringe and creepy and demeaning. Can't slog through this. Yikes.
Book was kind of a mess?
Plot:
It's a mess. Too many attempted surprises and traps that were either just incompletely flesh out or a big obvious twist.
The ending is a big blurry mess. I was utterly confused. I think the goal is to be a cliffhanger and make us read the next book, but I genuinely do not care what happens at all.
The houses could have been a really cool detail, but they were skimmed over.
Writing:
Not my cup of tea. It felt very juvenile.
Characters:
The interesting female MC died at the beginning of the book. Her twin, Emilia, didn't have a backbone. She's impulsive, reckless, and whiney. She's supposed to be a witch but basically relies on everyone around her to make the plot move forward. She has almost no power until later on in the book and just wants to cook. Her only personality traits were cooking and loving her twin.
Wrath was interesting, but the whole writing style of him “only responding in one word answers” was trite by the end.
I unfortunately purchased a few special editions of the sequel prior to reading this and I am now filled with regret. Hopefully I can find them homes with someone who will love them the way they deserve to be loved.
This is a four star for me.
Beautifully written. Relatable book. Short read. Read it in two days. Really great at this time in my life when I've been bogged down by my career.
Highly recommend
Trigger warnings:
Suicide
Pet death
No.
The writing itself is wonderful. The horror elements were well done. Multiple times I was nauseaus or grossed out. Good imagery.
The story? Ick.
Nopenopenope.
Ugh I don't know what to think this wasn't like anything spectacular but I wanna know what happens lol.
I genuinely cannot believe this is a debut. It is hauntingly beautiful. Very interesting magic system and world building. I am so sad I have to wait for the next one. Truly, gorgeous. Stunning. Perfection.
This book is..... f'ed up. Wow. This is heavy stuff for a YA. Not at all what I expected. The audiobook was very well done. I liked this as an audiobook better than the hardcover. The way the podcast is narrated and how you can hear the progression of Sadie's character in the audiobook is fantastic. The ending is infuriated, but I think well suited to the novel.
TW: Pedophilia, Rape/Sexual abuse, Drug abuse, Murder
This is THE MOST slept on trilogy.
It is absolutely PERFECT. Every single book.
Right to the top of my favorites list.
This book brought me to tears more times than once. The ending was painful, beautiful, hopeful, everything I wanted and more.
I cannot recommend this series enough. Do yourself a favor and buy it and immediately start reading it.
Ugh I hated it. I hated it hated it. Broke my heart.
There is going to have to be some REAL strong redemption writing in this next one.
I hate Kiva. I can't believe I'm even saying that. But she's just the literal worst.
I can't wait to see what happens. Five of five stars.
Life is too short to listen to bad audiobooks.
DNF @ 50% I just truly don't care about any of these characters and the plot is slow.
This book is nothing short of a masterpiece.
It's beautiful. Haunting. Human. Ethereal.
Read it.
I changed my rating from a 3 to a 2 because I realized that, only a week or so after finishing the book, I couldn't really remember the ending. I also felt like the explanations that are what I think would make this classified as horror were sort of more “wtf” than me actually being horrified. It just wasn't that great. The heroine is tough and that is cool, the romance is sorta meh. Overall it was fine.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy of this manga.
5 STAR READ.
I loved this manga. As someone who has spent a LOT of time playing WoW, I have definitely wondered what it would be like to be transported into that world and “play” from the inside.
This story follows Grevillea, as she wakes up and finds herself queen of the Arachnea. A faction from the game she has spent hundreds of hours playing.
She has to learn about the world first hand, and discover if she is truly in the game, or another world, or has gone mad. I loved the concept throughout the book of the hive mind.
This book does have violence and gore. I think the way it was incorporated was integral to the story and our protagonist brings in talks of ethics with each fight.
Can't wait to read the next volumes!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I liked it.
On a surface level, the cover is absolutely stunning. it has a beautiful holographic element to it and metallic pink writing on the actual book. Gorgeous shiny black Ravens are all over the back cover.
I felt like this book was an easy and entertaining read. The author does a great job of character building throughout the book. I felt like I truly knew each character and their motivations and desires by the end.
Well the morals of the story at the end were cliche, the way they were delivered was lovely.
I am interested to see how this book turns into a duology. The ending was very nicely wrapped up. I think it would have honestly made a fantastic standalone but I understand that the industry standard is now to make a duology or more.
Overall a great read.
Yep loved it.
I don't know why people didn't love this one. It's gorgeous.
The book was sold as Crimson Peak vibes and it delivered.
I loved the love story. The redemption arc of A. J's quirks. It was beautiful.
Cute middle grade! I liked the writing. Story had lots of good lessons. Read it in a few hours. Good to pick up during spooky season!
1 stars.
It was bad. I thought it was supposed to be a horror book. Not very horrifying. Aside rom the “eating” aspect which is just an atrocity. I don't really understand how it was nominated for Good Reads choice horror? This is my first “horror” book, so I'd love some recs down below if you have any.
The characters were OK. Patricia was mousy and finally grew a spine by the end of the book but even then not really, because her friends cleaned up her mess. The whole description of how Jim “ate” his victims was just bizarre.
Overall gonna be a fuck no from me.
