i like the art alot but im still not a fan of the story so im giving it 0.5 stars more than the book itself
i wish this ended with some backstory of how maggie ended up doing what she did and for what reason idk I think it would've added alot
3.5
usually I find black mirror esque stories cheesy and overdone but this one was good and made me sad
2.5
i think i went into this book expecting something else. i liked the plot with the baby and the chapters about Mia and her past and i wish there was more of that. instead the book focused on the kids hanging around and it was just slow and boring to me. it had very important themes but the way it was done and written wasnt my favourite, i just wanted more of that and less of kids dating and talking abt nothing.

i looooved the first 60% of the book and the atmosphere it had but sadly when the plot twist started to unravel i lost my interest. its not my favourite kind of a plot twist and i found it just a bit ridiciulous and it ruined the fun for me. also its my second riley sager book where i loved the set up and didnt love the plot twist/ending so yeah, dont know if im going to be reading more from him.
I totally understand why people dont like this book but personally I connected with it on so many levels and sadly it was very relatable sometimes. already want to reread it
i love this!!! made me so happy and warm inside by the end
the story is more of a 4.5/5 stars but i bumped it to 5 for how the book looks like, the audiobook and the experience in general
the last 30-40% got way too ridiculous and messy for my liking. it was as if the author just threw stuff on the wall hoping for it to stick
it was a little bit boring in some parts and i think it should be shorter but the constant plot twists, good characters and short chapters made it very enjoyable and quick to read. overall i liked it alot and my fav pov was deff Nick
i still love this book. sure it wasnt as scary and suprising as the first time but dats obvious coz i knew what will happen. also forgot how good the last 30 pages are
THIS TOOK ME OVER A MONTH TO READ but im so glad i finally did. love this book, its ingrained into my brain and i think abt it all the time. this book was so well written in my opinion, the characters felt very real and the descriptions of alaska and winter and survival will never leave my brain. theres so many amazing lines about motherhood, justice for women and family dynamics and i couldnt stop annotating. it was hard to read at times and dats also why it took me so long to finish coz i needed breaks but i love this book anyways.
4.5
THIS WAS SO CLOSE TO 5 STARS BUT THERES JUST SOMETHING MISSING
i basically read from page 60 till the end in one day coz i couldnt put the book down and i tabbed the hell out of it. the characters and story feels so real i cant believe this is all fake. i plan to listen to the audiobook bc i heard great things so dat can possibly bump it up to 5 stars and also the upcoming tv show!!!! so excited
daisy and karen were my fav characters for sure and all the men annoyed me at some point, also camila deserved better and ill stand by dat
literally nothing happend in this book up until the last 2 chapters but the atmosphere and dread and the survival was so good. any book abt surviving the winter, specifically in a small community, will automatically be amazing to me
amazing and very important, really wish I read it when i was 13; the family dynamics in this one are so beautiful and made me teary eyed the whole time
2.7
it was fine I guess but I went into it thinking it's a mystery thriller and it wasn't really? I liked the characters and relationships tho
i read gemmas pov in one day and had fun but when i got to the second pov it was just the same thing again and since i already knew what will happen it was very boring and took me 3 days to finish. not a fan of this concept i think
sam accepting the kids as his own was the only good part. idk why is this even a series if the husband is dead, there's no point or stakes anymore
