This is one of the best book I've read recently. Wonderfully, powerfully written and beautifully constructed (a mix of first person narration and letters). Would recommend that everyone checks this one out
This was the first GRRM novel I've read outside of the ASOIAF series, and it definitely has a different feel. It's interesting to pick up on words and phrases that are used in passing in this book that are concepts that ASOIAF revolves around.
The plot and character development become somewhat predictable as the book moves forward, but overall it is an enjoyable young adult fiction sci-fi read.
I made it about halfway through. The characters are unidimensional, and the dialogue like listening to cardboard cut outs talking to one another. Would not recommend
The plot and premise were entertaining, but the author's inability to write believable women characters and the lack of diversity in a cast of characters that are supposedly pulled from all reaches of the former British Empire make this is an uncompelling and frustrating read at times. There's better stuff out there
I read this after watching the first season of the HBO adaptation. It's very well written and is a must read for those that enjoyed the show, as it provides a lot of interesting background and internal monologue that fleshes out the story.
I only read Njal's Saga, so this isn't a rating for the entire series. Overall was disappointed, though I didn't think too much when starting and came at it mostly through a modern lens. I think I'm not a huge fan of feuds.
