Loved this, was a little short but sometimes thats not a bad thing! The format of how the story was told was very entertaining.
As a software engineer this was book heaven for me. It is the perfect mix of science fiction and comedy, very reminiscent of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. I was engrossed in the exploration and execution of the scientific theories by Bob(s) and love the little bits of nerd humour dropped in to keep the book light. My only criticism was that although understandable due to the many Bob(s) the chapter names names in my opinion were easily forgettable and thus I relied more on the location and events to give me an idea as to which Bob(s) was speaking.
I came into this book already a huge fan of Kevin Hart's stand up performances and general motivational activities he takes part in via social media. So I already had an idea of what to expect from the book however I was pleasantly surprised. When we hear about celebrities/performers and their latest accomplishments from the new or social media it's very easy to underestimate the effort or the work it took for them to get into the position they are in but through reading the book it gave a very rare glimpse into how hard it actually is and the sheer amount of perseverance required to “make” it. Kevin really opens up here and delivers a clear message into what's required to be successful, in addition, the book had me audibly laughing at some parts.
Following one of the rules in the books, which is to tell the truth I decided to be as honest as possible whilst reviewing. A lot of the content within the book resonated with me and has given me a lot of food for thought about my life and how I'm living it. Around half way through the book I decided to read some reviews to get a general feel from other people who have read it and I found that much of my concerns and opinions were shared. The book has a lot of good inside of it but also has a lot misinterpretation and skewing of stories and quotes to fit an argument. That being said I feel I'm a more compassionate, understanding and thoughtful person through reading it which is why I would recommend it to anybody looking for a little guidance through this journey we call life.
Having had this book recommended to me by multiple people and read numerous reviews giving it high praise, I went in with high expectations. Even considering this, I found myself underwhelmed and extremely bored the entire way. I usually prefer to listen to this type of book via audible to experience better engagement but the audible version did the opposite and I just could not stay focused on the topic at hand. It seems a lot of extractions were made to help people better analyse their behaviour and to improve upon it however it seems to target people who have never taken a moment to self reflect or to form an opinion on their general behaviour and how it affects others. However, with the above being said it still had flickers of immense wisdom and has impacted me sufficiently enough to consider its “tips”.
This books made me so much more aware of my surroundings and the world around me and it constantly has me thinking about how we could actually turn into the world described in the book.
Although not my favorite this book had its moments of intrigue and kept me reading endlessly as I yearned to learn more. My only issue with the book is how Lyra the main protagonist in the first book is cast aside in favour of Will. I'm hoping that this is intentional to build Will's character up as he and Lyra will have an important part to play in the last book.
Lovely little book but the story felt really rushed towards the end after some great character building.
Lovey little book about friendship and the importance of shifting ones outlook towards the world into a positive one. The drawings and the really pretty hand writing give this book a very unique charm. I will keep it handy and read it when I need it's positive messages again.
A deep and profound story that depicts the resilience of humans when they face their darkest hour. Although I have never been in such saddening situations each word hit a note that resonated with me deeply. It has opened my eyes to a world that I'm sheltered from and a world that I would have otherwise not been aware of. I'm thankful for I have a new understanding of the world I live in.
What an incredible story, I've never been so engrossed in a book. The story follows a little boy who due to sad circumstances ends up in an institute for kids with special abilities. Unfortunately, the kids here are treated more like cattle compared to something Charles Xavier might run. The kids have telekinetic and telepathic powers and these powers are used in the institute to kill targets across the world in order to prevent world-ending calamities. The book follows this young boys journey through the institute and his eventual escape from it...
This was absolutely incredible. The art direction and the story telling felt so natural in the Witcher world. It always amazes me how from reading the books and imagining certain stories you end up seeing so many similarities with other peoples interpretation.
I think the general idea with this book is to go into it without any expectations and give it a little time. There are some gems in here and some sage advise that are shared as part of the story but can be used as guidelines for all aspects of life.
I feel it's easy to try and understand this book at surface level and just take it for what it is. However my interpretation is of a human who has experienced something extremely difficult and in conclusion of this story he wanted to gift us with his means of survival rather than the main focus being for us to believing this outlandish story of his survival. I guess my conclusions is we have to ask ourselves why is one story easier for us to believe than the other and how much the power of interpretation can help in situations of extreme difficulty.
I decided to read the book after watching the first episode of His Darkest Materials and instantly falling in love with the story and world created by Phipllip Pullman. Althought often refered to as a kids book, there are some subtleties and deeper meanings here that make this a much deeper book then what might be anticipated. This was an incredibly easy ready, with amazing writing and good progression.
