“If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars.”
“I have lost my dewdrop”, cries the flower to the morning sky that lost all its stars.”
“A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it.”
Tagore is profoundly phenomenal and a genius with his ideas. His words have the ability to scrape off your soul from you! His epigrams leave you astounded and provoke you to think. He'll always be among my favorite poets. Metaphors fail to express the beauty of Tagore's enticing mind. Poetry at its finest. A must read indeed.
Franz Kafka digs in deep through your psychology and tickles it with his vague but astonishingly thought provoking storytelling. This one's about how Gregor Samsa, a rather ordinary gentleman suddenly transforms into a vicious insect. And how everyone around him is affected by this abrupt change. Powerful imagery with that added tinge of Kafkaesque narration! This is indeed a classic! The Metamorphosis is sure to amuse you and rattle that little squishy thing inside your skull, for your own good!
“We went far down the garden to the farthest end, where the children and the nurse and the puppy and I used to play in the summer in the shade of a great elm, and there the footman dug a hole, and I saw he was going to plant the puppy, and I was glad, because it would grow and come up a fine handsome dog, like Robin Adair, and be a beautiful surprise for the family when they came home; so I tried to help him dig, but my lame leg was no good, being stiff, you know, and you have to have two, or it is no use. When the footman had finished and covered little Robin up, he patted my head, and there were tears in his eyes, and he said: “Poor little doggie, you saved HIS child!”
Oh Mark Twain, you genius! How do I fight back those tears and the lump in my throat! A brilliant short novel that is sure to move you. A tale of a loyal dog who discovers the dark and cruel side of humanity. Beautiful narration and immersive plotline. This is one of the most emotionally charged stories I've ever read. Will have to discover more of this legend's works now!
This is my first Lee Child book. And no doubt it's a masterpiece! Jack Reacher has to be one the best crime thriller protagonists ever! Brilliant storyline and an immersive plot. Every page is a gripping tale of mystery, action and suspense. Lee Child has won my heart with this one. Can't wait to explore his other works too. A must read for fans of crime thrillers. Read it for Jack Reacher!
“A father can pass on his nose and eyes and even his intelligence to his child, but not his soul. In every human being, the soul is new.”
This is another brilliant masterpiece by Hesse. It's about this fascinating character, Knulp who enjoys being a vagabond, an onlooker who likes to live in the moment. He makes you happy, he makes you feel sad and in the end, he makes you think. Hesse's philosophical epigrams have always been a treasure! Such is the beautiful epic of Knulp!
“Under the spreading chestnut tree, I sold you and you sold me”
This one's about the helplessness of an individual against a collectively powerful oligarchical authority. The abject side of rebellion. Despite its vague and gloomy storyline, the message this book delivers is unabashedly thought provoking!
Ultimately in Orwell's words,
“War Is Peace”
“Freedom Is Slavery”
“Ignorance Is Strength”
A perfect epilogue to a masterpiece! This book is a bundle of joy, magic and nostalgia. It takes you through a wormhole where you're once again teleported back to your childhood! J.K Rowling certainly is the master of her art. It took me just a day to finish off this one! Speaks volumes about the enthusiam and anticipation I had for this book! Potter fans shouldn't miss this one! And lastly, since I an ardent fan of The Dark Lord, For Voldemort And Valor!
Lennie begged, “Le's do it now. Le's get to that place now.”
“Sure right now. I gotta. We gotta”
And what follows next literally blows up your mind! This is one of the most emotionally charged tragedies I've ever read. Steinbeck knows where to hit the readers and hammers it right where it hurts. It's a tale about an unusual bond of friendship and affection between two poor country folks, Lennie and George who have dreams and ambitions to fulfill. They're just like two brothers. Lennie is a dimwit but a ‘nice fella' and is looked after by George, who tells him that soon they'll raise a stake, have a paradise of their own and then they won't have to work for miserable bosses who keep giving them orders. The storyline is rich and intense. John makes you feel the anguish and the emotions of his characters like it's your own. Your heart is filled with empathy for them. The naivety and child-like innocence of Lennie. The brotherly love George has for him. You are bound to fall in love with them and their brilliant companionship. And when you finish the book, you just sit there with a lump in your throat. A classic masterpiece that just shouldn't be missed!
A tale so short yet so beautiful! Hemingway strikes the issue of loneliness of the human soul through this brilliant story. Three men, who seek to escape the grip of solitude and nothingness, in their own little ways. Hemingway sure knows his way with the words. This short story is simple yet so profound. Classic Hemingway!
“It is not necessary to accept everything as true, one must only accept it as necessary.' ‘A melancholy conclusion,' said K. ‘It turns lying into a universal principle.'“
This pretty much sums up this vaguely unconventional novel. Kafka delivers the harsh truths of bureaucracy, existential individualism and mindless formalities of the society in a subtle way, through this weird fable surrounding the life of Josef K. It's not an easy read and sometimes you wonder about what exactly is the narrator trying to convey as ideas seem to contradict like a paradox. It questions the very principles on which our society is based. In my opinion, there's one thing I surely learned from this book, that there's no escaping the authority. Whether you rebel against it or make peace with it, that is totally up to you. Kafka is eccentric, vague, surreal and intellectually fascinating, all at the same time! You should read it with an open mind!
Fyodor takes you on a roller coaster ride with this one. The narrator is a weird character. He amuses you and irritates you at the same time! In the end, he hands you a mirror to your soul. You may either end up hating him or loving him, it all boils down to how you perceived it. As of me, he fascinated me! Maybe I'll read it once again someday, to grasp the esoteric philosophy of Fyodor.
There are no words to descibe this book. It's simple yet so profound that it leaves your mind in tatters. The philosophy of Albert Camus regarding this hypocritical society and the way it judges a person who doesn't conform with its fallacies, really changes your perception towards life. This is one of those books that has a deep impact on your mindset, once you've finished reading it. Camus beautifully mocks the absurdity of our futile search for meaning of life!
This is Stephen King at his sheer best! It takes you inside a lavish hotel in Colorado, along with a small kid and his parents. And then, the hideous terror that lies behind the walls of Overlook are slowly unfurled by King, in his classic style of writing. You can feel your heart freeze with terror, as you go on turing the pages of this book. A mystical kid, a psychopath daddy and King's macabre, insane combination! Do not fucking miss this one!
This is one of those books which make you fear those hideous bloodsucking creatures called ‘Vampires' rather than loving them. The Vampires in this book have got balls to scare the shit out of you, unlike those other vampires in modern fiction or television. Beautifully written by King. The story and plot are immensely gripping. The character development is amazing. They blend in with the Lot quite perfectly. I've always enjoyed the way Stephen King describes the death of his characters in his novels. The imagery is so enticing that you actually feel empathetic towards them, like you're the member of the town itself and witnessing this horrific saga unfold before your eyes! I felt bad for the plot twist regarding Susan and Ben. It was literally heart wrenching! Overall, the novel is undoubtedly among the best works of King. I had read Lovecraft and Poe but haven't started reading King until this year. And I must say, he's on par with those horror fiction legends! Stephen King is slowly rising the ranks of the list of authors I love! I've left craving for more of his works, just like those blood hungry creatures in this book!
This is Stephen King at his best. An enticing horror flick about this peculiar town called Desperation. Mind blowing narration and amazing storyline. Brilliant characters combined with a sinister plot. This is the first Stephen King book that I read and boy it's hit the bull's eye! A must read for horror fiction fans. King seems like H.P Lovecraft's prodigal protege! Absolute masterpiece!
