I'd been really curious about this series of books, but hadn't got around to actually checking them out. But then Mom gave me the set for Christmas, so I decided it must be time.
It took about a third of the way through Twilight before I got wrapped up in the story. While I did wind up enjoying it enough to continue reading to the end, I wouldn't really say it was all that great. I will read the whole series since I have them, but I do hope the sequels are a bit better.
I really wanted to like this book. The last maybe 20% of it pulled it up from a 1-star to a 2-star rating for me, because it got more interesting when they finally moved past all the long drawn out back stories and interacted with people (outside of the Binat girls' constant infighting). It just felt like so much backstory and world-building, but very little actual character interactions and meaningful character development. The development that occurred was mostly just sprung on us, vs. something the characters worked through. Sigh. Really fun idea for a P&P adaptation, but mostly it felt like a slog.
(Very mildly spoilery, but I marked it just in case.)This alternate ending for [b:Feed 7094569 Feed Mira Grant http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1335958027s/7094569.jpg 7351419] made me as sad as the “true” ending! Worse, in a way, because there's no recovery from this one...
Another wonderful, feel-good novel from Steve Kluger. Love his characters and what he does with them!
For someone who generally does not like zombies (whether in print or on film), I sure loved these books. Very inventive story and world, compelling characters; I just NEEDED to know what was going to happen to all of them.
