Once I remembered that this is more literary fiction than sci-fi, I loved it.

A disturbing, disgusting, heartfelt, funny, complex alien invasion story that took me completely by surprise. The trolley problem on a galactic scale. It did drag a little at times for me (there is a lot of math and a lot of nuclear bombs) but overall I loved it and had to keep myself from bringing it up to everyone I spoke to while I was reading it.
