I learnt a lot from this book on how to deal with people better. Still, I feel like some principles were quite repetitive.
It's a short book but it helps shifting the view from creating more and more features to creating less but deliver value. It is certainly worth a read.
Very comprehensive book on design patterns. I especially liked the real world analogies and the relationships with other patterns. Though I read it back to back, it is also a good reference.
It is probably a better starting point as the Gang of Four book as the structure is less academic.
I enjoyed the story of a boy helping a girl who as a communication disorder making friends.
The only downside of this book is the font size. As the speech bubbles are here very densely filled and the book size is very small, you might experience difficulties especially with Kanji while reading.
It‘s such a sad book. It scared me. I could not put it down and had to continue reading.
A must-read for everyone. This book illustrates very well that today's society's inequality is way more than “just” the pay gap. Being aware of inequalities and understanding it's effects is the first step for improving them. The second step is to learn from this book and take actions - trying to represent women more is one of the biggest challenges (that are possible to overcome!) in our society.
It starts good but quickly gets into an endless repetition of the same principles over and over again. It also feels like there is no clear structure.
Basically, the core essence is that to be successful, you have to struggle and also want to struggle. Only if you accept the struggle or even enjoy them, you reach your goals. Don't postpone, do it. Strive for constant improvement. Don't blame everything on others, be responsible for your actions and doubt yourself.
It's nothing groundbreaking.
The contents would have easily fit into a medium-sized article.
Two stars because it started out good and if you never ever heard about these principles, he makes them easy to grasp.
A great book - for everyone (not only those who are interested in science) a must-read. I liked how Hawking answered these questions so well-reflected and explaining the reasoning in a manner that a general audience without a physics background could understand it.
It conveys also an important message, we should never stop being curious and try to understand the world around us. There is much more to take out from this book than just a better understanding of the universe.
Excellently written. It is a must-read for everyone working in tech. Accessibility is not an edge case. It should be considered right from the beginning. I like the way of thinking that disability is not an illness but rather a mismatch of interaction
The book shows effectively the chances and flaws about using machine learning in disciplines such as in crime or art. It is great because it isn't overly critical nor is it praising them too much. It is shortly - realistic and makes one think about the future.
The book was great. It showed me of how wrong I was about many things. And also that I am not alone.
I am also guilty of thinking in labels like developed and undeveloped world - even though the large majority is somewhere in between. It is eye-opening and also reminds us to constantly check our knowledge about the world. With the Internet, we have access to everything within seconds and we should take advantage of it.
I stopped reading this book about 20% in when he had bold statements like that the impact on society is measured by money (NGOs, marginalized groups whose credit was taken, underpaid healthcare workers, anyone?). Also the parts I read went on with highlighting multiple times his (monetary) success and how these principles helped him. The content I skimmed through sent similar to ones found in other self-optimization books (set an ambitious goal, work for it, fail, try harder, etc). The author also did not acknowledge his privilege of growing up as a white male in one of the richest societies world wide. His chances of getting really successful are way higher by birth than by people with less privilege and are thus not really applicable.
A decent book. I liked examples that were given, though, the more interesting findings were in the first couple of chapters.
Very great book for reference. Many pictures and drawings help to understand the human anatomy. Nothing you should read page by page, you should pick the pages you need.
Although its 40 years, its very useful and a must-read literature for every artist who needs help with anatomy and wants to learn more.
My review references the Japanese version from a learner's POV.
The anime can be seen as a classic and so is the book. The story of two young people switching bodies, a comet threatening to destroy a village and them desperately searching for each other is certainly unique.
The movie and book both match, there is nothing new that the film doesn't show. The book started a bit slow, but it got better from the middle. Sometimes it was hard to understand who is narrating as it wasn't formatted as clearly.
Language-wise it uses a lot of slang but I got used to it fast. The sentence structure wasn't too complicated either. Still, for a learner, I would consider it appropriate for high N3 or N2 due to the slang of the young people.
A very interesting read about human behavior. It helped to understand the link between behavior, biology and other factors to be taken into consideration. In short: It's complicated. The author tries their best to make it understandable for everyone without a biology degree. The beginning felt quite hard to understand, but it got better over time. Still, the book felt quite lengthy with many anecdotes and repetitions.
Very good book. Reveals new ways of thinking and also possibilities you might have not been aware of.
A very good book for the principles in Python programming. One of the best books I ever read for acquiring a new programming language.
I love this book. As well as the beautiful cover illustration and the illustration inside the book itself.
It took me not very long to read as there is not much text, certainly. Well, it's a screenplay, not a novel.
This book was great. J.K.R. is a great playwright, too and not only a great author. I enjoyed reading this book and I could recommend it to everyone who enjoyed HP as well.
