The first 300 pages were hard as I didn't feel like there was much happening but it got way better in the end. In the middle, I thought about interrupting but I continued and the end was so good that I think about reading the next two books of 1Q84 as well
The whole book is an epic failure. The pages are not numbered correctly, it does not follow the western reading style but the Japanese one as you read it from the back to front. The many wonderful pictures show the beauty of imperfection and shows very effectively that instead of always pursuing perfection you could also try basically the opposite.
When I looked first at this book, I was expecting to get a story similar to John Green's “The Fault in Our Stars”, which is a great book, but we won't need two books with a similar story. So, I was expecting to get a story like that:
A girl got cancer. A boy falls in love with her. She dies. His life is over.
No. Definitely nothing I'd like to read, but this book isn't a book like that. Certainly not, certainly different from John Green's. Totally different. It is so fun to read with a great protagonist who struggles to achieve to make a girl with cancer happy, even if he looses his current social status, even if his Mom forced him to, in his humouristic own way.
It made me laugh all the time and after reading, I could admit, this is one of the books I could definitely recommend.
Rather than reading the book, I'd recommend to watch the TED talk by the author. While the first few chapters about presence are interesting, there is not much content in there. The last few chapters are basically the TED talk repeated. The whole book was filled with references to the TED talk and e-mails by viewers and how it helped them. Having watched the TED talk and having read a few books on the topic, there weren't many additional things to be learnt rather than acting as a reminder.
I expected that the book was deeper; it was very basic as it explained e.g. the difference between qualitative and quantitative data and showed basic concepts like a business model canvas, etc.
If you never heard about such things or never really digged into business model creation and product validation processes, it does a decent job in explaining it. While some of the concepts were new and I didn't hear about, the majority was not, so I didn't take away much from it.
A very informative read about humans' history and future. It is still relevant, though the book was published 10 years ago.
This book was showing what could happen to us when everything is totally controlled. When I started reading, I thought, it was an imagination which seems to be far away. But in the process of reading this book, it seemed like today. Like today in a couple of years, like what happens if everything is known, everybody is watched.
I really liked this book, it wasn't very hard to read, it was very well written, with everything a good book needs, making the reader to laugh as well as to cry and the most importantst: To think.
This was really a book to think about and I really liked that.
Used this book for my thesis to model processes and structures. This books aids in providing a great reference to simplify complicated diagrams into a simple, understandable structure. This is way more comprehensive than the specification document by OMG. Of course, specifications serve other purposes but this actually helps with the application.
This book is about a witch who moves to the countryside with her relatives. I didn‘t feel like there is much happening in the book as there are not really any adventures. The comedy in it here and there makes it quite entertaining though. It is a very light story which is good to start the book, read a bit and then pick it up again. However, it didn‘t pull me in. It‘s a good book for N4/N3-ish learners to practice Japanese though - it uses Furigana everywhere and most of the unknown words could be understood by context.
The book makes one think about out of the box solutions which are beyond the usual graphic interface. However, it got quite repetitive at the later chapters.
Better than the first one. More thrilling. I expected less, but honestly, the second one is totaly readable.
Despite its length it is a pretty quick read as it has many illustrations. That book is straight to the point and can basically be seen as a very important addition to the Business model canvas. Also it clarifies the importance of continuous testing and also shows concrete methods on how to do it. Some of them might be hard to execute with a small team who also doesn't have much space (like a big workshop). The overall framework is still pretty helpful and due to its simple design, it is possible to look up concepts later on.
Very good writing, indeed. I enjoyed reading this book so much, the story of Harry and Voldemort. Discovering the whole magic world which Rowling created is amazing. Love it!
Also, here thanks to Kersi for getting me this book.
This is a pretty good second book for the series. Unlike the first novel this one is more adventure-like, but I'd get used to it pretty soon as I started reading. Here, many surprising things happened, things I'd never expected to happen while reading this story. The photos did a good work in underlining the story, so it was easy for me to imagine this fantastic, different world into my mind.
5/5 stars.
I am just speechless. I am impressed. Such a hard theme, very good writing. It was easy to get into the character. Very nice book, I was shocked.
A very good book. Very funny, I enjoyed reading this one. This genetist is such a funny man with his habits and his tries to get a wife.
