Strong recommendation for actionable best practices bringing Accessibility into development teams and agile processes.
The book teaches little and does not add any additional value of what is already written on the website. The test itself isn't worth it either - there are free ones out there that tell you the same.
Very good investment book that is both interesting to new & existing innvestors alike, certainly written for people in mind without much experience or financial degree. It needs to be considered that about 30% of the book only applies to the US (taxes, college fundihg, insurances). These chapters can be skipped if you don't live there. The rest is nevertheless solid advice.
“The whole world is a metaphor”. No sentence could describe this book better. At the same time it is also a labyrinth and a collection of riddles which you are trying to puzzle together.
It describes several stories of characters running in parallel. Their interconnection is not clear until the very end and even after that, there is still a lot of place of interpretation.
That is one of the few books where the next event couldn't be foreseen at all, the whole time you can look out for clues to find out what it means.
Even after reading, the book leaves you wondering what it does mean. You can think about theories but you will never know for certain.
That characteristics is major for this book. It is for certain excellent.
As cute as the first one. Also written in very easy Japanese which can be read smoothly without having to look up many words.
The book explains in detail the Non-Violent Communication Process. It helps how to deal better with all kind of situations and how to be empathic towards the other person and discover the needs.
NVC has 4 steps:
1. Observations (see, hear, remember, imagine)
2. Feelings (emotion or sensation rather than thought)
3. Needs (what I/you need or value; rather than a preference), e.g. I feel nervous
4. Request (clearly requesting that which would enrich my/your life without demanding): The concrete actions I like taken (“would you be willing to”). 4 may be unspoken if empathy is offered
Even though I am not religious, I enjoyed reading this book. It is a story of a young man leaving his home in America and travelling across Europe and Asia in search for the meaning of life. He risks his life to be closer to god. It is astonishing how much dedication he has for his goal while honoring all different cultures and religions and treating everyone with respect along the way.
The story is very easy to read and very good for beginners, though it seems a little dull and not very interesting.
This is by far one of the best books I read on painting. The insights are not only useful for artists but also designers and photographers. Textures, light sources, color theory, reflections, physics, color models, etc. - there is so much valuable information in this book. It is written in a very comprehensive format due to the illustrations and short chapters.
In the beginning is the theory and a suggestion for exercises, then there are some tutorials and in the end a gallery of works of contemporary artists. I loved reading this book, I will certainly revisit it as a reference.
This is a must read for everyone working in tech. This book explains carefully on how to design for and with people who are vulnerable.
The examples given were eye-opening. For example, smart home devices that are misused like flickering the lights, controlling the temperature at someone's elses home without the affected person noticing. The book shows on how to find out whether the product you are designing may be prone to misusage and how to design it safer.
Very good book. Examples of the patterns are very easy to grasb - thanks to the many quizzes it's also easier to remember them all
The book contains a set of 8 short stories of different genres (SF, history, slice of life, fantasy, ...). Each story is structured in 3 chapters whereas the chapters contain a summary, vocab, and questions for reading comprehension (solutions are at the end of the book). It uses Furigana throughout the book for about 95% of the Kanji. For my taste, it was too much. Difficult words are marked in bold and are translated at the end of the chapter.
The stories were ok - but it was still engaging to read as you are exposed to different genres. I am at around N3, though I think the book is also appropriate for N4. The reading comprehension questions were good as they helped to enforce the understanding. Overall, good structure. I can recommend it.
I am probably not in the target group of this book as it seems to be a guide more for managers (e.g. the section about firing employees). Still, I think there were valuable ideas about radical condor - what it is or what it is not. I guess one half is relevant for everyone, the other half more for people with management responsibilities.
Very interesting book about the cognitive dissonance theory. However, it became quite repetitive after the first couple of chapters.
It's a short book and basically a collection of all the speeches she has given until release. She is indeed very smart and she is right. I expected that there is further content besides the speeches - that's why I gave only 4 stars.
