I loved a lot about this book, with the main thing being the characters. This is very character driven book not so much about the plot. Even tho the anticipation of know what happen in Croatia was building like the best tension I've ever read to leave me like... meh. I can't believe after all that back and forth that's the only thing that had happened...
but I have to be honest—I think it could've wrapped up around chapter 32. That would've been such a dramatic ending, leaving me sprinting to know more! After that, I didn't really know where the book was headed. Chapters 33-36 felt like they dragged a bit and could've been condensed into a bomb epilogue instead.
Overall, it was a solid read with some great moments in between the characters. The banter was top tier in my eyes, but it lost a bit of its momentum towards the end.

I devoured this book, and my detective skills failed me until the very end. Holly Jackson always stayed ten steps ahead. It's emotional, enjoyable, nail-biting, mind-bending, and thrilling. Highly recommend it!

Sex was wack, friendship was mid. They both expressed how much one meant to the other but there was no development to when it happened or why they because such good friends. Other than one embarrassed herself and the other laughed.
Seem more small town in the beginning than new York to me... it was just meh tbh.

From the very first sentence, I was hooked. I did have my guard up from the jump but i trusted our main character and her unexpected ‘sidekick,' and was completely horrified by this small Kansas town.
The story is wonderfully twisty without feeling gimmicky and there's a definite edge through everything. And seriously, I didn't even know people sell dirt for other people to eat—I was disgusted and intrigued all at once!
